What to expect at each phase?

Solution development

We provide you with the framework and the real industry needs and priorities.

Then… let your creativity fly! We recommend you to:

  • Dedicate time for immersion. In order to develop the desired solutions, you need to understand the real challenge, what measures are currently taken to solve it (if at all), and how they could be improved. Have clarity on the problem you aim to solve.
  • Do your research. Learn about available solutions out there and how your idea will provide further value. Make sure you don’t work hard on something that already exists.
  • Then, use your tech and business knowledge to conceptualize a solution. Start developing your idea, and our experts will be here to guide you by, among other things, tying your idea to the reality of the construction world.
  • Build a prototype to demonstrate your solution and show that the fundamental challenges can be addressed.

Solution review

Our experts will evaluate your solution. We take it seriously and have our field, R&D, innovation and business experts assessing your submission.

We will invite selected teams to the semifinals.

You can find our assessment criteria here.

Mentoring and solution refining for the finalists

Our experts will choose the most promising teams to present their solutions in the finals. But you’re not alone. You will be mentored and receive guidance from our executives (as mentioned, we take it seriously!) to help you refine your solution and be as prepared as you can be in the finals.

Semifinals

The semifinal of the Challenge will be held via video conference. Participants will be expected to present a prototype, presentation and a short video. More details here.

Semifinalists will be notified and invited via email.

Finals

The finals will be held at our new premises in Paris*. Finalists will be invited to a multi-day final event of workshop sessions. Participants will meet a group of highly talented peers, have the chance to exchange ideas with Hilti’s management and engage with prominent professors. The judges for the finals will consist of an international panel of experts.

Winners will be announced during the awards ceremony which will be held on September 2021. The winners will receive a paid opportunity to further develop their prototype with Hilti, or they can become involved in other advanced technology initiatives of Hilti.

*Travel and accommodation expenses to the finals will be covered by Hilti.
