<h2>Cartesi Online Hackathon 2024 | #RollupWithCartesi</h2>Cartesi is an app-specific rollup protocol with a virtual machine that runs Linux distributions, creating a richer and broader design space for dApp developers. Cartesi Rollups offer a modular scaling solution, deployable as L2, L3, or sovereign rollups, while maintaining strong base layer security guarantees. To learn more about Cartesi, visit <a href="https://cartesi.io/" target="_blank">https://cartesi.io/</a>  We want to enable computationally intensive applications on Ethereum! Furthermore, we want you to be able to build smart contracts and dApps using the languages and tooling that you know and love. These abstractions have been developed and battle-tested over the last few decades. Reusing existing tooling, and having full programmability is a great way to innovate faster without reinventing the wheel. <h2>The Challenge</h2><h3>Track 1: Best use case for real-world adoption </h3>We're excited to see you bring your ideas to life by developing a proof of concept (PoC) decentralized application (dApp) using Cartesi Rollups. Come up with real-world projects that you believe can make an impact in the web3 realm with Cartesi. Get inspired and think outside the box to find innovative solutions in areas like Artificial Intelligence, Open Data, EDUcation, DeFi, Health, Environment, and more. You can draw inspiration from the ideas on <a href="https://rolluplab.io/" target="_blank">https://rolluplab.io/</a>, but feel free to let your creativity soar even beyond!<h3>Track 2:  Most Helpful Dev Tools </h3>Build something that helps the dev journey, and helps productivity. Get inspired and think outside the box to find tooling solutions that foster the open-source culture and enable other developers to use and extend your creation. You can draw inspiration from the ideas on the Cartesi Discord #spotlight but feel free to let your creativity soar even beyond!Examples: <ol><li>Wallet functionality </li><li>Language-based templates </li><li>Use JS to Bootstrap a template for create-react-app to facilitate kickstart projects.</li><li>Cartesi Machine templates and RISC-V compilation of important libs that can help other devs bootstrap their projects. <h2>Terms &amp; Guidelines</h2>The Cartesi Foundation (“Cartesi”) will conduct the hackathon (the “Hackathon”) substantially as described in these rules. By entering or participating, each entrant or participant (“Entrant”): (i) agrees to these official guidelines (the “Guidelines”) and the decisions of Cartesi with respect thereto, which are final and binding in all respects; and (ii) agrees to comply with any and all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations. 1. EligibilityUnless otherwise specified, the Hackathon is open only to persons (i) who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry; and (ii) who are able to provide proof of eligibility in accordance with the terms specified below.2. Hackathon ChallengeThese Guidelines incorporate the <a href="https://taikai.network/cartesi/hackathons/cartesi-online-hackathon-2024/overview?token=W8Z7TR0CLP1N3L1C" target="_blank">Cartesi-Online-Hackathon</a>’s Challenge documentation, setting forth the dates, entry guidelines, prize distribution, and winner selection guidelines.Only one Entry per person or team is allowed.  Unless otherwise noted in the above-linked Hackathon documentation, the team must have a minimum of one person and a maximum of five people. The project must start afresh and the repository must be public with frequent commits. In case the submitted project is found to be built upon an existing project, it will only be evaluated if the team can demonstrate significant improvements and value additions to the entirety of the project.The value of the Prize may be taxable to the Winner as income. All federal, state, and local tax liability, and any other costs and expenses associated with acceptance or use of the Prize not specifically provided for in these Guidelines are solely the Winner’s responsibility.Cartesi reserves the right to make a public announcement, announcing the Winner on the Cartesi website or in any manner (including, without limitation, social media (e.g., Twitter, Instagram, etc.)) it deems appropriate.3. Winner VerificationBefore receiving payment of any Prize, Winner must successfully complete a KYC screening process.  Winner will be required to provide certain identifying information (e.g. name, residence or domicile, date of birth, etc.) and related documentation and pass sanctions and watchlist screening.  Winner represents and warrants that the identifying information they provide during the KYC screening process truthfully and accurately represents Winner and only Winner.  If the Winner cannot be reached after a reasonable effort has been exerted and/or fails to respond to complete KYC screening within seven (7) days (or such other time specified by Cartesi) from when the initial notification is sent, the Winner forfeits the Prize, and an alternate Winner will be selected.4. Liability Release and Indemnity IN NO EVENT WILL CARTESI BE LIABLE TO THE ENTRANT FOR ANY DIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING LOSS OF USE, DATA, BUSINESS, OR PROFITS) ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE ENTRANT’S PARTICIPATION IN THE HACKATHON.By entering the Hackathon, Entrant agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless, Cartesi and any other Hackathon Entities from any and all liability, for any claims, damages, injuries, or losses of any kind, and to release all rights to bring any claim, action or proceeding arising out of, in connection with or relating to Entrant’s participation in the Hackathon.Entrant further agrees that in any cause of action, Cartesi’s liability will be limited to the value of the Prize, and in no event shall Cartesi be liable for attorney’s fees.5. Grant of Rights  Except where prohibited by law, by entering the Hackathon and/or winning the Prize, Entrant irrevocably consents to the use of his or her name, image, photograph, likeness, biographical information, entry, statements attributed to Entrant (if true), and any video footage related to the Prize, for all of Cartesi’s advertising, promotional or other commercial purposes in all media now or hereafter known, worldwide and in perpetuity without additional compensation and additionally consents to the Cartesi putting his or her name on a winner’s list.6. General Terms Cartesi is not responsible if the Hackathon cannot take place, or if the Prize cannot be awarded due to delays, interruptions, or failures due to acts of God, war, natural disasters, weather, acts or threats of terrorism, strikes, lockouts, labor disputes, work stoppages, fire, acts of government, or other events outside of Cartesi’s reasonable control. If for any reason, the Hackathon is not capable of running as planned, Cartesi reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Hackathon or any part of the Hackathon. If the Hackathon or any part of the Hackathon is terminated or modified prior to the closing of the Hackathon Period, notice will be posted on one or more of Cartesi’s social media pages. Cartesi reserves the right to modify and amend these Guidelines from time to time during the Hackathon Period for clarification purposes.

However, for those joining teams, coding skills are not a strict requirement. If you bring other skill sets, like research, project management, pitching, design, or any other relevant expertise that aligns with the project's requirements, you are more than welcome to be part of a team.  <h3>How much does it cost?</h3>This event is absolutely FREE for everyone interested in #RollupWithCartesi! <h3>I want to participate, but I don't have a team. Whether you prefer solo endeavours or larger collaborative efforts, feel free to assemble the team that suits your project best. <h3>Can I register my team members in bulk?</h3>No. Candidates must register and apply individually. <h3>Can I build my project solo?</h3>Yes, absolutely! Whether you're a solo developer with a one-person team or just prefer the individual challenge, building solo is entirely welcome.  <h3>Can I submit more than one project?</h3>Yes, you can! We welcome participants to showcase their versatility and submit multiple projects for consideration in the hackathon. Each project will be evaluated independently based on the specified judging criteria. However, we look at how your project can be useful in the real world and the Web3 landscape. We care about new ideas, how well you use Cartesi's tech, and if your project is easy and nice to use. Also, when you pitch your project, make it clear and interesting. You don't need a business plan, but you need to show us why your project matters and how it can be helpful to the community. <h3>I don't know how to pitch a project. What should I do?</h3>Project pitching is important, and it will be evaluated based on the specified judging criteria. If you're unsure about pitching, consider having someone on your team with good presentation and communication skills. Having a team member who can clearly explain your project's value and engage the audience will greatly enhance your chances of success. Don't hesitate to practice your pitch beforehand, and we encourage you to join our Discord community to seek feedback and mentorship from our DevAd team. <h3>How do I contact mentors from Cartesi?</h3>Mentors are readily available for assistance and can be reached on our Discord server.
