<h2>Cartesi Hackathon 2023 | #BUIDLwithCartesi</h2>Missed the kickoff session? Don't worry! Cartesi’s application-specific optimistic rollup framework enables a blockchain stack robust enough for developers to build computationally intensive and previously impossible decentralized use cases. Supporting a Linux runtime environment, Cartesi’s RISC-V virtual machine allows developers like you to build decentralized applications with your favorite libraries, compilers, and other time-tested open-source tooling. We want to enable computationally intensive applications on Ethereum! Furthermore, we want you to be able to build smart contracts and DApps using the languages and tooling that you know and love. These abstractions have been developed and battle tested over the last few decades. Reusing existing tooling, having full programmability is a great way to innovate faster without reinventing the wheel. <h3>So why are we hosting this hackathon?</h3>Well, three reasons:1. We want to encourage innovation, creativity, and welcome more developers to experiment with Cartesi tech!2. We love being inspired by what can be done with Cartesi tech and love seeing developers push the boundaries of Web3 tech as we know it!3. We care about feedback.  <h2>The Challenge</h2>We want to see you develop a proof of concept decentralized application using Cartesi Rollups. For inspiration, you might want to use one of these components:<ul><li>- Decentralized SQLite.</li><li>- Decentralized Geoprocessing library.</li><li>- Cartesi Rollups asset deposit and withdraw.</li><li>- Decentralized OpenCV (Image Processing library).</li></ul>Be creative! We encourage you to build novel applications using this stack without any constraints. The easiest way to get started is to start building off of the <a href="http://bit.ly/32GUfkS" target="_blank">rollups examples</a>. We want you to explore what can be built using Cartesi and these basic components.  <h2>Participation</h2>Hackathon participants must be eighteen years of age or older at the time of entry.Only one entry per person or team is allowed.The team must have a minimum of one person and a maximum of five people.   <h3>But most importantly...</h3>No previous hackathon experience is required! This hackathon welcomes all developers, no matter your level or experience with blockchain tech - it's all about having fun and experimentation!<h2> </h2><h2>Deliverables</h2>Although judging will prioritize projects that have a complete minimum viable product, a clean and creative design implementation, a well-written whitepaper, or innovative and creative ideas regardless of their stage of development, are also acceptable. We encourage participants to think outside the box and explore unconventional approaches to problem-solving!We will score projects based on the following criteria, and each will be scored from 1 to 5 for a maximum of 25 points:<ul><li>Product-market fit and economic viability.<ul><li style="margin-left:36pt">Is it something that fills a current existing gap in the blockchain space?</li><li style="margin-left:36pt">Is it something that people would want to use? Is there a demand for it?</li><li style="margin-left:36pt">Is it something that is missing in this space at the moment?</li></ul></li><li>Originality and innovation.<ul><li style="margin-left:36pt">Is it something new/novel?</li><li style="margin-left:36pt">Is it something new in terms of the product?</li><li style="margin-left:36pt">Is it something new in terms of the code?</li></ul></li><li>Implementation quality.<ul><li style="margin-left:36pt">Here we look at the elegance of the solution. Is it designed well?</li></ul></li><li>Technical complexity.<ul><li style="margin-left:36pt">This one is quite self explanatory. We care about solutions that are interesting to look at from a technical standpoint.</li></ul></li><li>Level of completion.<ul><li style="margin-left:36pt">Which stage of development is your project at?</li></ul></li></ul><h3> </h3><h3>Examples</h3>🟢 An excellent submission would be something that addresses all the points mentioned above: a solution that addresses a gap in an innovative and original way that is designed elegantly.🟡 A poor submission would not address any or address only a few criteria mentioned before: a solution that does not address an existing gap in the blockchain space and is not innovative in design nor code. 🔴 A disqualified submission would be one that does not have any real Cartesi tech implementation. <h2>Prizes</h2>We’re passionate about supporting developers and encouraging creativity to blossom across the community. Cartesi Labs Ltd. (“Cartesi”) will conduct the hackathon (the “Cartesi Online Hackathon”) substantially as described in these rules. By entering or participating, each entrant or participant (“Entrant”): (i) agrees to these official guidelines (the “Guidelines”) and the decisions of Cartesi with respect thereto, which are final and binding in all respects; and (ii) agrees to comply with any and all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations. <h2>1. Eligibility</h2>Unless otherwise specified, the Hackathon is open only to persons (i) who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry; and (ii) who are able to provide proof of eligibility in accordance with the terms specified below. <h2>2. Hackathon Challenge</h2>These Guidelines incorporate the Cartesi Online Hackathon Challenge documentation, including but not limited to tabs setting forth the dates, entry guidelines, prize distribution, and winner selection guidelines. Only one Entry per person or team is allowed.  The team must have a minimum of one person and a maximum of five people.   The value of the Prize may be taxable to the Winner as income. All federal, state, and local tax liability, and any other costs and expenses associated with acceptance or use of the Prize not specifically provided for in these Guidelines are solely the Winner’s responsibility. Cartesi reserves the right to make a public announcement, announcing the Winner on the Cartesi website or in any manner (including, without limitation, social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter)) it deems appropriate. <h2>3. Winner Verification</h2>The Winner may be required to prove eligibility, including, without limitation, proof of age, residence, and identity, which may include submitting a copy of his/her passport or similar government-issued identification within one (1) day after being notified of being a potential Winner. If the Winner cannot be reached after a reasonable effort has been exerted and/or fails to respond to confirm eligibility within one (1) day (or such other time specified by Cartesi) from when the initial notification is sent, the Winner forfeits the Prize, and an alternate Winner will be selected. <h2>4. Liability Release and Indemnity</h2>IN NO EVENT WILL CARTESI BE LIABLE TO THE ENTRANT FOR ANY DIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING LOSS OF USE, DATA, BUSINESS, OR PROFITS) ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE ENTRANT’S PARTICIPATION IN THE HACKATHON. By entering the Hackathon, Entrant agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless, Cartesi from any and all liability, for any claims, damages, injuries, or losses of any kind, and to release all rights to bring any claim, action or proceeding arising out of, in connection with or relating to Entrant’s participation in the Hackathon. Entrant further agrees that in any cause of action, Cartesi’s liability will be limited to the value of the Prize, and in no event shall Cartesi be liable for attorney’s fees. <h2>5. Grant of Rights  </h2>Except where prohibited by law, by entering the Hackathon and/or winning the Prize, Entrant irrevocably consents to the use of his or her name, image, photograph, likeness, biographical information, entry, statements attributed to Entrant (if true), and any video footage related to the Prize, for all of Cartesi’s advertising, promotional or other commercial purposes in all media now or hereafter known, worldwide and in perpetuity without additional compensation and additionally consents to the Cartesi putting his or her name on a winner’s list. <h2>6. General Terms</h2>Cartesi is not responsible if the Hackathon cannot take place, or if the Prize cannot be awarded due to delays, interruptions, or failures due to acts of God, war, natural disasters, weather, acts or threats of terrorism, strikes, lockouts, labor disputes, work stoppages, fire, acts of government, or other events outside of Cartesi’s reasonable control. If for any reason, the Hackathon is not capable of running as planned, Cartesi reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Hackathon or any part of the Hackathon. If the Hackathon or any part of the Hackathon is terminated or modified prior to the closing of the Hackathon Period, notice will be posted on one or more of Cartesi’s social media pages. Cartesi reserves the right to modify and amend these Guidelines from time to time during the Hackathon Period for clarification purposes.

<h2>What is Cartesi?</h2>Cartesi is an application-specific rollup execution layer with a Linux runtime. Cartesi Rollups can be deployed as a layer 2 (on top of Ethereum), as a layer 3 (on top of Optimism, Arbitrum, zkEVM chains, etc.), or as sovereign rollups. It opens up the design space for more expressive and computationally intensive blockchain applications.<ul><li>DApps are deployed on their own customizable application-specific rollup chains;</li><li>DApps don't compete with each other in Cartesi’s ecosystem for scarce blockspace;</li><li>Cartesi Provides Ethereum or L2’s with orders of magnitude more computational capacity;</li><li>Developers can code decentralized logic with their favorite libraries, compilers and other time-tested open source components;</li><li>DApps preserve the strong security guarantees and censorship resistance of the underlying blockchain;</li><li>Cartesi Rollups opens up the design space for more expressive and computationally intensive blockchain applications;</li><li>Cartesi Rollups can be deployed as a layer 2 (on top of Ethereum), as a layer 3 (on top of Optimism, Arbitrum, zkEVM chains, etc.), or as sovereign rollups;</li></ul> <h2>Who can attend the #BUIDLwithCartesi 2023 Online Hackathon?</h2>This hackathon is targeted at creative minds with a BUIDLer spirit!
