<h2 id="hackathon">Hackathon</h2><p><br></p><p>The goal of the Pixels Camp hackathon is to single out and reward creativity and innovation by providing participants with an opportunity to work together within a time frame of 48 hours to create something awesome.</p><p><br></p><p>The Hackathon is the most important part of the event. Every candidate is advised to put a team together and take part in it. Participation is what makes Pixels Camp great. The more we have evidence that you participated in the hackathon and other activities, the more your chances of joining us next year improve.</p><p><br></p><p>It is free form, so you can develop your own idea or <a href="https://pixels.camp/hackathon/#challenges">pick challenges</a> that our sponsors have prepared for this edition instead. Just make sure you have a prototype, product or a service to show us when the clock runs down!</p><p><br></p><p>We don&#39;t expect you to come to Pixels Camp to attend a few talks, that&#39;s not the spirit. We expect you to join us for three days, all-in, participate, communicate, learn and teach, and network with the community.</p><p><br></p><p>Now&hellip;</p><p><br></p><h2 id="whatschangingthisedition">What&#39;s changing this edition?</h2><p><br></p><p>On the last edition, we&#39;ve used TAIKAI as the platform to manage the Hackathon, which was a success.</p><p><br></p><p>This edition we&#39;re going to continue using TAIKAI, with a whole new set of features ready for you.</p><p><br></p><p>The principles are the same, TAIKAI makes full use of decentralization and transparency that blockchain technologies promise, including picking up the winning projects of this edition&#39;s Hackathon.</p><p><br></p><p>The dynamics are of what you can find in the real world and a real economy. You can earn KAIs (TAIKAI&#39;s currency token) by participating in Pixels Camp activities, or by convincing others to transfer their tokens to you.</p><p><br></p><p>When the voting starts, you can invest in the projects you like the most using your hard-earned tokens.
In a nutshell: every participant can be an entrepreneur, an investor, a service provider, a customer, a marketing guy, a growth strategist, a CTO looking for help, a mentor and a trader.
So here&#39;s how it is going to happen:</p><ul><li>The Pixels Camp Hackathon will run on TAIKAI&#39;s website.</li><li>The Hackathon projects will also be submitted through TAIKAI.</li><li>There&#39;s no need for wallets or dedicated software to vote or transfer tokens.</li><li>You can only invest in the project when the voting opens. This will happen when the projects presentation starts on the Main Stage.</li></ul><p>What stays the same:</p><ul><li>Juries will also be listed on TAIKAI. They have more tokens than most users and will invest in the projects they think deserve it.</li><li>The voting system is simply transferring your tokens to the projects you love. Every investment in a project, either coming from Juries, its team members, good friends or general participants will be entirely traceable, transparent and incorruptible, by design.</li></ul><p>It may sound a little complicated, but there will be a section on TAIKAI in the opening Keynotes.</p><p><br></p><p>Let&#39;s get started with the Hackathon rules now.</p><p><br></p><h2 id="eligibility">Eligibility</h2><p><br></p><p>Any Pixels Camp approved participant can apply, as long as they are on the premises during those 48 hours (within reason &ndash; you are allowed to go out and get some air, sleep in a proper bed if you want to, etc.).</p><p><br></p><p>Groups <strong>must be larger than 2 elements</strong>, all of whom must be Pixels Camp participants. Teams are advised to recruit elements with a wide diversity of interests that complement each other in their knowledge areas. The broader the skills in a team, the higher the probabilities to surprise the angels, investors and your peers with innovative ideas.</p><p><br></p><p>You can use <a href="https://github.com/PixelsCamp/docs/blob/master/SLACK.md">Slack</a>, <a href="https://twitter.com/pixelscamp">Twitter</a>, <a href="https://pixels.camp/">Pixels Camp</a> website or TAIKAI user directory to find your team members or you can meet them IRL on-site when Pixels Camp starts.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Participants can only be part of one project</strong>.</p><p><br></p><p>Ideas, concepts, and team organization are tasks that can be thought out before the event, but the project itself should be developed during the 48 hour period.</p><p><br></p><h2 id="projectregistration">Project Registration</h2><p><br></p><p>The hackathon projects must be submitted through TAIKAI&#39;s website. To register a new project for your team, log into TAIKAI using your GitHub account.</p><p><br></p><p>Head on to Pixels Camp Hackathon challenge page to create a project.</p><p><br></p><p>From there you provide a title for your project, an intro (it will be used in the listings) and a full description.</p><p><br></p><p>You can use images, videos in the description, to make it more attractive.</p><p><br></p><p>Now you need to enter the members of your team, a pretty cover image for your project, an optional video if you have one and your code repository, also optional.</p><p><br></p><p>When you think that everything&#39;s ready for the world to see, click &quot;Publish&quot;.</p><p><br></p><p>Press the &quot;Edit&quot; button whenever you feel like changing your project page.</p><p><br></p><p>You can use <a href="https://guides.github.com/features/mastering-markdown/">Markdown</a> in the description, to make it more attractive.</p><p><br></p><p>Now you need to enter the members of your team, a pretty cover image for your project, an optional video if you have one and your code repository, also optional.</p><p><br></p><p>When you think that everything&#39;s ready for the world to see, click &quot;Publish&quot;.</p><p><br></p><p>Press the &quot;Edit&quot; button whenever you feel like changing your project page.</p><p><br></p><h2 id="checkyourprojectpage">Check your project page</h2><p><br></p><p>Once your project is published, you&#39;ll have access to its permalinked page.</p><p><br></p><p>This is the page that everyone sees when your project is enabled.</p><p><br></p><p>In the page, you&#39;ll see the title of your project, cover, logo, description and the team.</p><p><br></p><p>Once it&#39;s public, you can share your project page with other participants.</p><p><br></p><h2 id="projectlistings">Project listings</h2><p><br></p><p>TAIKAI will promote the projects as soon as they are published.
The sooner you get your project page up and running, the more chances you get to be invested.</p><p><br></p><p>Projects will be listed on TAKAI&#39;s Pixels Camp Hackathon Challenge page and will also be highlighted on TAIKAI&#39;s homepage.</p><p><br></p><p>A number will be attributed to the project based on the creation date.
This will be the order by which they&#39;ll be presented on the Main Stage.</p><p><br></p><h2 id="projectdevelopment">Project development</h2><p><br></p><p>Every team member is entitled to a seat at a table. You can ask any staff member to claim seats for your team. They will give you a special marker for your project.</p><p><br></p><p>You can develop your own idea, but if you choose to respond to any sponsor challenges, make sure you read the <a href="https://pixels.camp/hackathon/#challenges">provided documentation</a> and don&#39;t forget to mention them in your project description.</p><p><br></p><p>The sponsors will assign mentors that will be available during the event to help you with any questions you might have regarding your project. They will be wearing a lime green t-shirt with the word &quot;mentor&quot; so they&#39;re easily identifiable.</p>

<h2 id="pixelscampcodeofconduct">Pixels Camp Code of Conduct</h2><p><br></p><p><img src="https://github.com/PixelsCamp/docs/blob/master/img/everyone.png?raw=true" alt="Screenshot" class="fr-fic fr-dii"></p><h2><br></h2><h2 id="purpose">Purpose</h2><p><br></p><p>Pixels Camp celebrates technology and creativity and brings the community together with three days of non-stop tech talks, workshops, a programming competition and fun.</p><p><br></p><p>We are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ability, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and religion (or lack thereof). All we care is talent and participation.</p><p><br></p><p>This code of conduct outlines our expectations for all those who participate in our community, as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior.</p><p><br></p><p>We invite all those who participate in Pixels Camp to read these guidelines and help us create safe and positive experiences for everyone.</p><p><br></p><h2 id="promotingawelcomingandinclusiveenvironment">Promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment</h2><p><br></p><p>A supplemental goal of this Code of Conduct is to create and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment by encouraging participants to recognize and strengthen the relationships between our actions and their effects on our community.</p><p><br></p><p>Communities mirror the societies in which they exist and positive action is essential to counteract the many forms of inequality and abuses of power that exist in society.</p><p><br></p><p>If you see someone who is making an extra effort to ensure our community is welcoming, friendly, and encourages all participants to contribute to the fullest extent, we want to know.</p><p><br></p><h2 id="expectedbehavior">Expected Behavior</h2><p><br></p><p>The following behaviors are expected and requested of all community members:</p><ul><li>Participate authentically and actively. In doing so, you contribute to the health and longevity of this community.</li><li>Exercise consideration and respect in your speech and actions.</li><li>Attempt collaboration before a conflict.</li><li>Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech.</li><li>Be mindful of your surroundings and your fellow participants.</li><li>Alert the Pixels Camp <a href="mailto:org@pixels.camp">organizers</a> if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this Code of Conduct, even if they seem inconsequential.</li><li>Remember that community event venues may be shared with members of the public; please be respectful to all patrons of these locations.</li></ul><h2 id="unacceptablebehavior">Unacceptable Behavior</h2><p><br></p><p>The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable within our community:</p><ul><li>Violence, threats of violence or violent language directed against another person.</li><li>Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.</li><li>Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material.</li><li>Posting or threatening to post other people&rsquo;s personally identifying information (&quot;doxing&quot;).</li><li>Personal insults, particularly those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or disability.</li><li>Inappropriate photography or recording.</li><li>Inappropriate physical contact. You should have someone&rsquo;s consent before touching them.</li><li>Unwelcome sexual attention. This includes sexualized comments or jokes; inappropriate touching, groping, and unwelcomed sexual advances.</li><li>Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following (online or in person).</li><li>Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.</li><li>Sustained disruption of community events, including talks and presentations.</li><li>Direct recruiting and listing for open positions. Pixels Camp is not a recruiting event.</li></ul><h2 id="consequencesofunacceptablebehavior">Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior</h2><p><br></p><p>Unacceptable behavior from any community member, including sponsors and those with decision-making authority, will not be tolerated.</p><p>Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.</p><p><br></p><p>If a community member engages in unacceptable behavior, the community organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including a temporary ban or permanent expulsion from the event and community tools and forums.</p><p><br></p><h2 id="reportingguidelines">Reporting Guidelines</h2><p><br></p><p>If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify the Pixels Camp <a href="mailto:org@pixels.camp">organizers</a> or staff member as soon as possible. <h2>What is Pixels Camp?</h2><p>Pixels Camp is a yearly technology event, spanning over three days of non-stop technical talks, workshops, competitions, and coding. For 60 hours straight, around 1000 participants can enjoy world-class presentations, demos, community events, and its classic 48-hour coding competition.</p><p><br></p><h2>Who can attend Pixels Camp?</h2><p>Pixels Camp is targeted at creative minds with a hacker spirit (in the classical definition of the word). Anyone with a technical profile is welcome to apply, not only engineers (eg. web designers are welcome too).</p><p><br></p><h2>How are applicants selected?</h2><p>Pixels Camp curators aim at selecting the best, most participative and motivated, programmers and creatives. For this they rely on what candidates fill in their profiles (their pitches and personal bios) and evidence of engagement in previous editions (if applicable). CVs don&#39;t matter, please don&#39;t paste full CVs as an application pitch. What matters is your potential and your passion for technology, no matter your level of experience.</p><p><br></p><h2>How much does it cost?</h2><p>Pixels Camp is free for all selected candidates.</p><p><br></p><h2>Can I register our company employees in bulk?</h2><p>No. Candidates must register and apply individually (they are evaluated and selected individually too, see above).</p><p><br></p><h2>Do you pay for the atendees&#39; transportation and/or accomodation costs?</h2><p>No. However, there may be discounts and other partnerships. If so, these will be announced in the months leading to the event, so make sure you follow us in one of the social networks where we&#39;re present. You can also choose to sleep in the venue. This one is guaranteed, with some caveats (see below).</p><p><br></p><h2>Can I bring a guest to the event?</h2><p>No. All attendees must apply to the event individually.</p><p><br></p><h2>Do I have to participate in the 48h programming competition?</h2><p>No. But we do encourage you to participate in something during the event, and not just passively roam around the venue. Fortunately, there are plenty of activities to choose from.</p><p><br></p><h2>I was selected but can&#39;t attend the event, what do I do?</h2><p>Please let us know. Spots are limited and it would be nice if another candidate could go instead (but no, you cannot choose who that candidate might be).</p><p><br></p><h2>When will the schedule be available?</h2><p>A detailed schedule will be available closer to the event, on our website.</p><p><br></p><h2>Will there be a live stream from the event?</h2><p>Yes, live streaming will be available. The feed will be focused on the activities taking place on the main stage, such as talks and contests. When nothing is going on there, you can expect a general transmission of the event.</p><p><br></p><h2>Will the talks be recorded?</h2><p>Unless the speaker states otherwise, every talk will be recorded and available online in the weeks following the event.</p><p><br></p><h2>Is there food and beverages at the event?</h2><p>Food and drinks will be provided free for all attendees. We&#39;ll be providing lunch and dinner daily, and there will be random snacks and beverages available 24/7.</p><p><br></p><h2>Why is the official language English?</h2><p>Although most of our participants are from Portugal, we have attendees coming from all over the world. English is usually well understood and accepted. Our main motivation is technology and talent, and these are global attributes, so our main &#39;language&#39; is what we use to code. English is not the only language at the event, though. The event is bilingual, so there may be talks held in portuguese. These will be properly identified in the event&#39;s schedule.</p><p><br></p><h2>Do I get a participation certificate at the end?</h2><p>Yes, we can provide participation certificates on demand in the days following Pixels Camp. Just make sure you actually participate.</p><p><br></p><h2>Should I arrange for a place to stay?</h2><p>In the spirit of the event, attendees can choose to stay the night at the venue, sleeping in sleeping bags or such. But if this is not your thing, you have many accommodation options elsewhere around. Closer to the event we may announce discounts and partnerships. Please note that Lisbon has plenty of tourism all year round, which means high occupation in hotels and hostels, so try and book your reservations in advance.</p><p><br></p><h2>Are there hotels nearby?</h2><p>Pixels Camp&#39;s venue (Pavilh&atilde;o Carlos Lopes) is in a very central location in the city, so there are plenty of hotels around. These are just a few examples: Zenit Lisboa, Lisbon Fontana Park, Hotel Miraparque, Lisbon Top Hostel, Home Sweet Lisbon, Midtown Hostel.</p><p><br></p><h2>Are there showers available?</h2><p>The logistics for this are complicated, so don&#39;t count on it. Bathrooms are available, but showers may not exist at all or be very limited in time. You&#39;ll have to improvise.</p><p><br></p><h2>I&#39;ve decided to stay at the venue. Can I bring a small tent to Pixels Camp?</h2><p>Although the event has &#39;Camp&#39; in its name, tents are not allowed due to space limitations inside the venue. However we&#39;ll do our best to provide you with optimal spots for taking naps.</p><p><br></p><h2>What about a sleeping bag?</h2><p>This one is allowed, no problems with that.</p><p><br></p><h2>Is there Wi-Fi at the event?</h2><p>Of course. There will also be a limited number of ethernet outlets in the table area, but teams doing projects for the 48h competition have priority on these.</p><p><br></p><h2>Will the Wi-Fi be any good this year?</h2><p>The million-dollar question&hellip; The organization will provide a world-class setup but, ultimately, this depends on you and your fellow attendees. Bear in mind that hotspots are NOT ALLOWED at the event. Wi-Fi is a shared medium, like a pool, please don&#39;t pee in the pool.</p><p><br></p><h2>What are these other activities?</h2><p>The main activity is, of course, the 48h programming competition, where your team works on a project during the event and presents it on stage on the final day. In the Quiz Show teams answer tech/science related questions and in the Security CTF teams try to solve cybersecurity-related challenges. There&#39;s also a retro gaming competition where participants play classic games on stage. These are just some examples.</p><p><br></p><h2>How can I participate in these other activities?</h2><p>Some will have qualifier challenges in the weeks leading to Pixels Camp (eg. the Quiz Show and the Security CTF), you just need to participate and score enough to get qualified. Others require only that you register during the event. Check the pixels.camp website for more details.</p><p><br></p><h2>If I&#39;m selected to participate in one of these activities, can I select anyone to team up with me? Even a speaker?</h2><p>Yes, but it&#39;ll help if you tell that person beforehand.</p><p><br></p><h2>Does that mean I can invite someone who&#39;s not attending Pixels Camp?</h2><p>No. The other members in your team must also be approved attendees. And to be approved they must apply for the event (individually).</p><p><br></p><h2>Are there prizes for winning one of these activities?</h2><p>In most cases, yes. But we won&#39;t tell you what the prize is in advance.</p><p><br></p><h2>I want to be a speaker at the event. How can I propose a talk?</h2><p>Talks proposals are handled through GitHub pull requests. Follow the instructions in the talks <a href="https://github.com/pixelscamp/talks" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">repo</a>.</p><p><br></p><h2>Do I need to apply to Pixels Camp to propose a talk?</h2><p>Yes, you do. And if your talk is accepted, it means you&#39;re immediately accepted as an attendee as well (of course).</p><p><br></p><h2>Since english is the official language, should my talk be given in english?</h2><p>English is the official language, yes, but it&#39;s optional for participants and speakers. If you&#39;re not comfortable (enough) with delivering a talk in english, you can choose to deliver it in portuguese instead. You could also choose Klingon, or Goa&#39;uld, but it makes sense to choose a language that at least a few people in the audience would be able to understand&hellip; ;)</p><p><br></p><h2>I am interested in exhibiting or becoming a sponsor, what do I do?</h2><p>If you are interested in sponsoring Pixels Camp, please contact us at <a href="mailto:org@pixels.camp" target="_blank">org@pixels.camp</a> for a prospectus and sponsorship application instructions.</p><p><br></p><h2>I&#39;m a tech guy but I also do recruiting. Is it OK if I talk to someone at Pixels Camp to see if they&#39;re interested in working with me?</h2><p>You cannot engage in direct recruitment activities during Pixels Camp. This is one of the core rules of the event. The attendees don&#39;t enjoy unsolicited targeting, and we don&#39;t want to turn the event into a battlefield for hires. Trust us, it&#39;s better for you, not only for attendees. Having said this, it&#39;s OK if the interest is mutual and both parties want to talk (meaning the attendee approaches you). It&#39;s definitely NOT OK if you&#39;re preaching to the crowd or fishing around for interest.</p><p><br></p><h2>Can I leave a few flyers on the tables to advertise my group/event/company?</h2><p>That would depend on what you&#39;re advertising. <h2 id="awards">Awards</h2><p><br></p><p>Pixels Camp will award the ten most well funded projects. The count will take place exactly 30 minutes after the last project presentation on Saturday.</p><p><br></p><p>Each of the winning projects will receive a handful of prizes, some of which offered by our sponsors and partners, and big beautiful Pixels Camp v3.0 trophy to keep by the fireplace at home, proudly.</p><p><br></p><p>We will also award some of the winners from fun competitions like the Quiz Show, CTF, Chasing Ghost, etc.</p><p><br></p><p>Finally, TAIKAI will award the top investors, that is, those who were able to accumulate more KAI tokens after the final redistribution.</p>
