<h2>7th CASSINI Hackathon: Environment &amp; Green Transition</h2> Dive into some of the critical challenges faced by millions of people around the world. We’re assembling problem solvers from across Europe to develop solutions that support the transition to a sustainable economic system and the protection of the environment.Take part in this brand new edition of the CASSINI Hackathons and get the chance to win one of three overall prizes: cash prizes of up to 5.000€ and 6 months of expert mentoring from notable professionals in the space industry! Check the information below to learn more about the CASSINI Hackathons.  <h3 class="fr-text-uppercase">1. REGISTer to the hackathon</h3> Hit the orange button " ⚡ LOG IN TO JOIN" or "⚡JOIN HACKATHON" button. Depending if you have an account on TAIKAI or if you have to create one. Your registration will be finalised once you have filled out our registration form where you'll pick your hackathon location.  There you go, now you are part of the 7th CASSINI Hackathon: Environment &amp; Green Transition    As a next step, go to the matchmaking tab and search for teammates. You can also join the <a href="https://discord.com/invite/cassinihackathons" target="_blank">CASSINI Hackathon Discord server</a> to find teammates or to stay up to date in general. Teams have to be built before the start of the Hackathon Weekend (13 - 15 September). <h3>2. PRIZES</h3> You are in luck! At the CASSINI Hackathons, you have the chance to win twice . First at a local level and second at the European level.Local prizes - Each hackathon location has its own unique set of prizes for the local winners and runner-ups. Take a look at what you can win at the local level by checking the subpages of the local hackathons. (Click on the hyperlinks for the eleven locations in section 3 for more information)Overall prize - At the European level, the three top hackathon teams will win the big cash prize of 9.000€ in total (1st place: 5.000€, 2nd place: 3.000€, 3rd place: 1.000€) and get access to the CASSINI Mentoring. A 6-month mentoring programme that includes 100 hours of mentoring by top experts and is designed to turn your hackathon project into a successful business.CREODIAS Hackathon award: our partner T-Systems will award a 5.000€ credit voucher for the use of data, analytics, and/or cloud computing services on CREODIAS to the overall winner of the Hackathon.  <h3 class="fr-text-uppercase">3. These novel solutions should address emissions and carbon footprint reporting, support sustainable living, and contribute to climate change mitigation. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?</h3> Students, entrepreneurs, engineers, designers, researchers and others are welcome to participate. You are eligible if you are 18 years old or older at the start of the Hackathon (13 September) and reside either in the European Union (any country) or in a non-EU country associated with Horizon Europe (or in ongoing negotiations for an association). All teams must have at least 3 team members and can go up to a maximum of 8 members. <h3>5. IMPORTANT DATES</h3> 💡 26 August - 5 September | Big Ideas CampaignJoin us for this series of online evening events where we aim to spark your creativity and help you meet fellow team members. We kick off with our launch session, then dive into the key space technologies and how they are used in environment and green Transition. Join hundreds of participants around Europe as you develop new products and services that contribute to the future of sustainable living, climate change mitigation, emissions and carbon footprint reporting. Each location will select one winning team at the end of the weekend to move on to the Demo Day &amp; Awards Ceremony.🏆 18 September | Demo Day &amp; Awards CeremonyThe winners of the local hackathons from around Europe will come together to pitch their solutions in front of an expert jury that will select the top 3 hackathon projects. This event is open to the public to join. <h3>6. JUDGING CRITERIA</h3> Both at the local level and the European level your solutions will be judged against three simple criteria.<ol><li>Relevance (33%) - Does the project address one of the hackathon's three challenges? Does the project make use of Copernicus, Galileo and/or EGNOS data and signals?</li><li>Innovativeness (33%) - How innovative is the idea compared to products/services that are already on the market? <h2>Meet the local organisers</h2> The Environment &amp; Green Transition CASSINI Hackathon is set for 13-15 September 2024! This edition we are utilising EU space technologies to support the transition to a sustainable economic system and the protection of the environment. This pan-European hackathon is challenging Europe’s entrepreneurs, researchers, students, and young professionals to make a lasting impact on environment and green transition. Meet the selected local organisers for this new set of challenges: <h3>1. Albania: ALBICT  </h3><a href="https://albict.org/" target="_blank">ALBICT</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Albania! ALBICT is an NGO focused on innovation. Since 2014 it’s supported more than 75 startups and 600 youth projects as part of its mission to empower positive change in Albania. ALBICT helps businesses to launch or grow, connects an innovation ecosystem, and supports youth engagement through education programmes. It’s organised the Albanian ICT awards for 12 years and works with UNICEF to engage young people in producing solutions for problems like climate change. It’s the perfect host for this edition of the Hackathon in Albania. <h3>2. Croatia: Algebra University </h3><a href="https://www.algebra.hr/lab/en/" target="_blank">Algebra University </a>will be organising the Hackathon in Croatia! Based at Algebra University, Algebra LAB is a centre for research and innovation and a startup incubator. It provides research opportunities, entrepreneurial education, mentorship, a network of professional contacts, and a collaborative space for idea exchange. Thanks to funding from the European Space Agency, Algebra University now offers two space-related degree courses, fostering the development of practical skills and forging links with leading businesses.   <h3>3. Czech Republic: Insane Business Ideas</h3><a href="https://www.inbui.com/" target="_blank">Insane Business Ideas</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Czech Republic! Insane Business Ideas s.r.o. has organised several international Hackathons, including a previous CASSINI Hackathon. They’re well-connected to national businesses and academic centres, and will bring a range of exciting expert speakers (plus hands-on workshops and training) to the new venue in Hradec Králové. <h3>4. Greece: DRAXIS Environmental </h3><a href="https://draxis.gr/" target="_blank">DRAXIS Environmental</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Greece! DRAXIS Environmental specialises in environmental ICT solutions. They have built multi-functional web-based platforms and mobile applications, decision making tools, crowdsourcing platforms, workflow systems and more. The organisers are keen to meet and inspire the next generation of innovators – and bring their extensive network to this edition of the Hackathon. <h3>5. Italy: ComoNExT</h3><a href="https://www.comonext.it/en/" target="_blank">ComoNExT</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Italy! Our local organiser, ComoNExT, is an innovation hub specialising in digital transformation. Based in a nineteenth-century cotton mill in Lomazza, ComoNExT is currently supporting 140 companies with technology transfer, promotional and funding services. Through regular Academies and projects like the NExT Marketing Lab, ComoNExT delivers training to prepare SMEs for success. Its links with businesses in the community will bring expertise and invaluable networking opportunities to this Hackathon.   <h3>6. Latvia: Latvian Space Industry Association </h3><a href="https://www.latvija.space/home-1/" target="_blank">Latvian Space Industry Association</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Latvia! Our local organiser, the Latvian Space Industry Association, represents and promotes the national space sector. They helped to develop the Latvian Space Strategy (a set of goals for 2021-27) and are committed to bringing more young people into the sector. At the Hackathon, they can do this by connecting teams and raising awareness. <h3>7. Norway: Bølgen bærekraftsenter</h3><a href="https://bolgenbks.no/" target="_blank">Bølgen bærekraftsenter</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Norway! Bølgen bærekraftsenter is a regional Centre for Sustainability. It unites businesses, innovators, academia and environmentalists in the interest of sustainable change. The Centre offers education, business development and transition advice to startups and SMEs, with support services which will be offered to the winning teams. Bølgen bærekraftsenter is working with Digin to host the 7th CASSINI Hackathon. Digin is Norway’s largest ICT cluster, with 95 members ranging from academic institutions to businesses and investors. It supports the fast-growing Norwegian ICT sector and brings valuable connections to this edition of the Hackathon. <h3>8. Poland: ABGi Poland / Blue Dot Solutions </h3><a href="https://abgi-poland.com/en/" target="_blank">ABGi Poland</a> and Blue Dot Solutions will be organising the Hackathon in Poland! Our Polish edition of the 7th CASSINI Hackathon is jointly organised by ABGi Poland (a consulting firm specialising in funding) and Blue Dot Solutions (an international startup platform which also runs the Space3ac accelerator). The two groups have participated in the EOClimLab consortium, an ESA-backed project which organised several hackathons focused on using space data for climate change and monitoring solutions.<h3>9. Romania: Romanian Space Initiative (ROSPIN)</h3><a href="https://rospin.org/" target="_blank">Romanian Space Initiative (ROSPIN)</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Romania! The Romanian Space Initiative (ROSPIN) is an NGO on a mission to develop the local ecosystem through education, community events, and technical projects. ROSPIN developed Romania’s first Earth Observation open-source satellite and designed a Mars rover for the European Rover Challenge. Through space education programmes, ROSPIN aims to help young people engage in cutting-edge space challenges and collaborate with international experts. <h3>10. Spain: Knowledge Innovation Market BCN</h3><a href="https://kimglobal.com/en/kimbcn/" target="_blank">Fundació Privada Knowledge Innovation Market BCN (KIMbcn)</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Spain! The IEEC was established in February 1996 as a private, non–profit foundation to foster space R&amp;D in Catalonia. It has four members: Foundation Knowledge Innovation Market (KIMbcn), the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) and the Cartographical and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC). The consortium has exceptional knowledge and connections covering the space sector, business outreach, and technological developments. It’s perfectly positioned to offer cutting-edge training and business support to participants in this Hackathon.

<h2>Discover the prizes</h2><h2> </h2><h3>The hackathon competition ⚔️</h3>At the end of the Hackathon Weekend (13-15 September), each hackathon location will evaluate the project submitted by their teams to select the local winner and runner-ups. The local winners (one team per location) will then be invited to present their project during Demo Day (18 September), where a professional jury will select the 3 overall winners of the hackathon. <h2>Rules are important to run a safe and fair hackathon!</h2> Please read the full set of rules in our <a href="https://www.cassini.eu/hackathons/sites/default/files/2024-09/Rules%20of%20Contest%20-%20Cassini%20Hackathons%20Prize%20after%20Corrigendum%201.pdf" target="_blank">Rules of Contest</a>. We have summarised the most important ones for you below:<ul><li>✔️ Eligibility criteria. You must live in the European Union (any country) or in a non-EU country associated with Horizon Europe (or in ongoing negotiations for an association) and be 18 years or older to participate in the hackathon competition. All teams must have at least 3 team members and can go up to a maximum of 8 members.</li><li>💻 Fresh code only. To ensure a level field for all contestants, all code must be created by the team, during the Hackathon Weekend. But you are permitted to use publicly available or openly licensed APIs, SDKs, frameworks and other software libraries for your project. Any software development tools and/or programming language can be used.</li><li>🤲 Everyone is welcome. We welcome all participants regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical appearance, body size, disability, or marital status.</li><li>💜 Be nice to each other. We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical appearance, body size, disability, or marital status. We do not tolerate harassment on our platforms in any form. </li><li>⛔ Use your time and energy to innovate for good, not to make the world a worse place.
