Description

Use case

  • Problem: proof of purchase is scattered. Paper fades, PDFs and order emails get buried across several inboxes, and return and warranty deadlines pass unnoticed.
  • Evidence: in 2025, warranties were the top complaint area at DECO PROteste, Portugal's largest consumer association, with 15,000+ cases (DECO PROteste, legal support service, 2025).
  • Founder story: Hamilton uses multiple emails for different purchases and struggled to find the receipt for the smart fridge he bought from a physical store, making it difficult to action its warranty.
  • Users: online shoppers in Portugal and the EU first, then Brazil and the USA.
  • Digital transformation: Receebo digitises one of the last paper documents everyone still carries, the receipt, and turns it into structured data that protects consumers' rights.

Solution & demo

  1. Capture: scan a paper receipt, upload a PDF, or import from Outlook (read-only).
  2. Read: AI extracts store, date, products and price. The user reviews before saving; the original file is kept as proof.
  3. Find: search any purchase by product, store or brand.
  4. Alerts: Receebo works out return windows and warranties (legal and manufacturer, side by side) and sends reminders before they end. Plain-language consumer rights for Portugal/EU.

Business model: 15 days free, full access, no card, up to 5 receipts. Then €2.99/month or €24.99/year via Stripe. We never sell user data or use it for ads.

Demo (90 s): add a real receipt (Outlook import or scan) → AI-filled review → save → search the product and open the original receipt → return and warranty dates with reminders. Video: [TODO: demo video link]

Results achieved during the hackathon

  • Created a multi-task team of bots that worked in parallel to achieve different goals in Marketing, project management, design, implementation, and direction.
  • Outlook import built on Microsoft Graph: read-only Mail. Read, last 90 days, PDF attachments plus HTML order emails (e.g. Amazon) turned into receipts, encrypted tokens, reconnect prompts. Gmail hidden behind a flag (avoids Google's paid yearly CASA assessment).
  • Outlook tested in dev: Sign-in app registered; founder's Hotmail connected; first sync imported 9 receipts.
  • New trial: 15 days, up to 5 receipts, no card; cap notice with Subscribe; alerts keep running at the cap.
  • Email hardened: receebo.net verified in Resend, mail from [email protected]; deduplicated reminders; one-click unsubscribe; failed sends logged and retried.
  • Site and app copy rewritten for Outlook, new hero subhead, trial line, TRIAVE dispute-resolution footer, social preview tags, trial analytics event.
  • Legal: terms and privacy drafts for Portugal/EU, Brazil, and the US (pending lawyer review).
  • Quality: typecheck clean across 5 projects; web tests 184 passed, API tests 219 passed.
  • Pitch assets: 9-slide pitch deck, English pitch script, 90 s demo script, Q&A prep.
  • Desktop and mobile video using real screens from the app, using references directly from the code.
  • Status: all code changes are committed in Replit and published to receebo.net.

Architecture

Sources (camera photo, PDF upload, Outlook mail via Microsoft Graph Mail.Read) →

API server on Replit (review queue, warranty/return rules for PT/EU/BR/US, trial/plan checks, daily reminder job with DB lock) →

OpenAI receipt extraction → Postgres (accounts, receipts + original files, email connections with encrypted tokens, job locks) →

Outputs: web + mobile app (library, search, receipt view), email reminders via Resend and push, Stripe Checkout billing, analytics events.

Auth: Clerk.

Privacy by design: read-only mail access, encrypted tokens, user review before save, disconnect or delete any time, data never sold.

Source system types & data domains

  • Phone camera / file upload: unstructured images and PDFs — receipts (store, date, items, price, currency, country)
  • Microsoft Outlook (Graph API): SaaS email API, OAuth, read-only — order emails, PDF attachments, HTML bodies (last 90 days)
  • OpenAI: AI extraction API — structured receipt fields
  • Rules table (in code): reference data — consumer law, return windows and legal warranties for PT, EU, BR, US
  • Clerk: identity SaaS — accounts and sign-in
  • Stripe: payments SaaS — subscriptions, checkout
  • Postgres: relational DB — accounts, receipts, trial state, email connections, reminders, analytics
  • Resend / push: messaging — warranty and return reminders

Built with Grok / SpaceXAI tools

A team of 5 Grok Bot agents (CEO, Engineer, Designer, Marketing, Product Manager) worked with Hamilton, who made every product decision.

Grok Bot edited the live Replit app, ran a critical business review, built and tested the Outlook import, new trial and email hardening, set up Resend, guided the Microsoft sign-in registration, researched BR/US consumer law, drafted per-country terms, and produced the pitch deck, script and demo plan.

Next steps

Publish after review; Outlook in production with ranked import; 10-AI-read trial cap; frozen-account flow and account deletion; return window from delivery date; Brazil/US rights panel and pt-PT/pt-BR translations; lawyer review of terms; test with 10–15 real buyers; company and VAT setup at real launch.
