Inspiration

One of our teammates Aunts used to run a local bakery known for its delicious pastries and warm atmosphere. Despite her dedication and exceptional baking skills, she struggled to attract enough customers, relying mostly on word of mouth in a digital age. Sadly, she had to close her beloved business due to declining sales. If Neighbourhood Net had been available, it could have provided Clara with the marketing tools to reach a broader audience, connected her with local events to increase foot traffic, and featured her story through engaging vlogs. This support might have transformed my aunt's bakery into a thriving community hub, preventing its unfortunate closure.

What it does

NeighbourhoodNet is dedicated to empowering local communities by marketing neighborhood businesses, connecting residents through local events, and keeping everyone informed with engaging blogs. Our platform helps small businesses thrive by increasing their visibility and customer base. We create opportunities for neighbors to meet, share, and celebrate through well-organized events, fostering a stronger sense of community. Additionally, our blogs provide up-to-date information and insights about local happenings, ensuring residents stay connected and engaged. At Neighbourhood Net, we believe in the power of community and work tirelessly to support and enrich the neighborhoods we serve.

Challenges That We Ran into

As are entire group is in highschool (Grade 11), this was actually our first time using resources like github (with other people), that combined with the overwhelming pressure felt by knowing we would be going up against: undergrade, masters, and even some out of school competitors resulted in low moral. Due to our enixeperience with Github we actually lost our repository twice and had to restart

What did we learn

As a collective experience, this project checked a lot of 'first-timers' for the entire team. This was the first website in which a solid foundation between the backend, frontend, and requests was needed. Along with this, GitHub proved to be very useful as collaborative resource and although a learning curve, will serve to be incredibly productive in the future!
