Inspiration
We understand the difficulty that peripheral countries faces when it comes to a lack of health cares and sanitations. Hence why, this project was entirely inspired by the "Health and Well-being" SDG (Sustainable Development Goal).
What it Does
This webapp allows user to input basic details about how they are feeling (age, gender, and relevant symptoms) and outputs the most likely diseases/sicknesses/injuries that individual may have. This is done through advanced Google AI API to analyze what might by the most, hypothetically, best preliminery diagnosis for the patient.
How We Built It
We made both the front end and back end using the MERN (MongoDB, ExpressJS, ReactJS, & Nodejs) tech stack. Sean was entirely responsible for the backend and frontend code implementations of the project, while Aidan on the other hand was responsible for the UI/UX design of the project.
Challenges We Ran Into
We were inexperienced with real-life applications in the world of computer programming. In fact, this was our first Hackathon! Aidan had no experience in coding while Sean is not too far off in terms of comparable skills as well. Learning the MERN stack to accomplish this project has both been challenging and an interesting journey. Additionally, we originally had 4 members in our team. However, 2 of the team members had to withdraw as a consequence of getting in a car accident (thankfully, they are OK!). Therefore, there were only so much that two people can do when it comes to technical abilities.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of/What We Learned
We were proud of ourselves that we were able to collaborate and overcome the obstacle of unfortunately losing two of our teammates in the midst of the competition.
Sean was especially proud of his coding skills and problem-solving ability as he felt that this hackathon has helped him significantly to grow as a programmer.
Aidan was especially proud of his UX/UI skills and acquisition of new technology (React and Figma) through mutual learning and workshops provided during the hackathon week.
What's Next?
We hope that after participating in this hackathon, there will be many more opportunities in the future to partake in more of these kinds of events. These events has given us many opportunities to learn, grow and connect with other like-minded individuals.
