Rules and Terms

Before reading these rules, please review the General User Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy of the TAIKAI platform.

1. ORGANIZATION OF THE CHALLENGE

Storacha Network shall be considered the Organizer of the challenge.

2. DEFINITIONS

  • Prizes: Refers to the awards provided to the winners at the end of the challenge.
  • Overview: Refers to the specifications determined by the Organizer, including deadlines, prizes, guidelines, and themes for contributions.
  • Challenge: Refers to the hackathon event as described in these rules.
  • IntellectualProperty Rights: Refers to all legal rights worldwide regarding designs, trade secrets, copyrights, software, patents, and more.
  • General User Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy: The general terms for TAIKAI’s website and its Privacy Policy, accepted by Innovators upon account creation on taikai.network.
  • Projects: Refers to all team submissions, original ideas, and materials such as code, documents, and videos uploaded by Innovators as solutions for the challenge.
  • Backers: Refers to the jury responsible for evaluating and selecting the winning projects.
  • Innovator: Refers to any person registered for the challenge.
  • Registration: Refers to the process of registering for the challenge.
  • Team: Refers to a group of Innovators created on the platform to participate in the challenge.
  • Winner/Winners: Refers to the members of the projects ranked by the Backers as the winning teams.

3. PURPOSE OF THE RULES

3.1. These rules define the terms and conditions for participation in the challenge, supplementing the General User Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy of the TAIKAI platform. In the event of any conflict, these rules will prevail.

3.2. Innovators are required to rely on their skill, knowledge, and creativity. The challenge is not a lottery or game of chance.

4. CONDITIONS FOR ENTERING THE CHALLENGE

4.1. Participation in this challenge is free.

4.2. Innovators must read and accept these rules before registering and participating.

4.3. Innovators guarantee that they will adhere to the rules throughout the challenge. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.

4.4. One entry per person is permitted.

4.5. Innovators and/or teams that fail to comply with the rules at any stage may be disqualified. If a prize has been awarded under non-compliance, the Organizer reserves the right to demand its return.

5. REGISTRATION AND ACCESS TO THE CHALLENGE

5.1. To participate in the hackathon, each Innovator must create an account on storacha.network and open a user account on taikai.network by providing:

  • A valid username
  • A valid email address
  • A valid password

5.3. A confirmation email containing a confirmation link will be sent to the Innovator’s listed email address. Once their account is confirmed, Innovators can participate and complete their profiles.

5.4. Incomplete or incorrect registrations may result in disqualification.

5.5. By registering, Innovators agree to be contacted via email for matters related to the challenge.

6. DURATION OF THE CHALLENGE

6.1. The challenge will take place from September 30 to October 31, 2024. Specific timelines:

  • Registration: Sept 30 - Oct 13
  • Coding: Oct 16-22
  • Submission Deadline: Oct 27
  • Project Selection: Oct 28-30
  • Winner Announcement: Oct 31

6.2. All dates and times refer to the Stockholm time zone (CET).

6.3. The Organizer reserves the right to adjust the challenge’s duration, with reasonable notice.

7. PRINCIPLE OF THE CHALLENGE

7.1. Innovators must submit their deliverables in accordance with the requirements outlined in Section 8.

7.2. Submissions must be in English. Any non-English deliverables will not be reviewed.

8. DELIVERABLES

8.1. The required deliverables must include:

  • ProjectDescription: Brief explanation of the project and how it uses Storacha’s technology.
  • Demo: Working prototype or video demo.
  • Codebase: Link to GitHub or other code repositories.
  • Documentation: Clear, easy-to-follow instructions for replicating or understanding the project.

8.2. Additional files such as presentations, images, or diagrams may be submitted as attachments or links to external services (e.g., Dropbox, Google Drive).

8.3. Projects must consist solely of the team’s work. If a project contains third-party materials, proper credit must be given.

8.4. Innovators are responsible for ensuring the accessibility of their submissions. If the submission cannot be accessed or read, the Innovator must correct this before the deadline. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.

9. SELECTION PROCESS

9.1. Project selection will take place from October 28 to October 30.

9.2. Projects will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Technical Execution
  • Innovation & Creativity
  • Scalability & Practicality
  • User Experience & Design
  • Presentation & Documentation
  • Halloween Theme Integration (bonus points)

Selection will not be influenced by factors such as race, gender, sexual orientation, or political opinions.

9.3. The jury (“Backers”) will consist of experts appointed by the Organizer.

10. IMAGE COPYRIGHT

All images and media used in submissions must be free from copyright infringement. Innovators are responsible for ensuring the legal use of images, and the Organizer will not be liable for copyright violations.

11. PRIZES

11.1. Prizes will only be awarded if:

  • The project meets the quality standards set by the jury.
  • The Innovator abides by the rules on intellectual property.
  • The Innovator agrees to the disclosure of certain information (e.g., name, photo).

11.2. Prizes:

  • 1st Place: $1,666
  • 2nd Place: $999
  • 3rd Place: $666
  • Optional: Honorable Mentions (6x): $333 each

11.3. Prizes are non-exchangeable and cannot be transferred or exchanged for cash.

11.4. Prizes will be paid via TAIKAI, and participants are responsible for ensuring their account details are correct.

12. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

12.1. Innovators retain ownership of their project’s intellectual property.

12.2. By participating, Innovators grant the Organizer the right to reproduce, distribute, and showcase their projects for promotional and marketing purposes.

13. CODE OF CONDUCT & BEHAVIOR GUIDELINES

The Storacha Halloween Hackathon adheres to a zero-tolerance policy against:

  • Bullying, harassment, or hate speech (including racism, sexism, homophobia, or transphobia).

Any participant who feels uncomfortable or witnesses inappropriate behavior should report it to @theirlaziness on Discord or Amy on the TAIKAI platform.

14. DISQUALIFICATION

Participants may be disqualified for:

  • Failing to follow the rules or code of conduct.
  • Submitting plagiarized or incomplete work.

15. CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION

Innovators are prohibited from sharing any confidential information disclosed during the challenge. The use of such information is limited to participation in the challenge.

16. MODIFICATION OF RULES

The Organizer reserves the right to modify the rules at any time. Innovators are encouraged to review the rules periodically for updates.

17. APPLICABLE LAW

The challenge is governed by Portuguese law, and any disputes will be settled by the Courts of Porto.
