The Bitcoin Meets Solidity - Hackathon is pure Virtual Bitcoin Hackathon led by Rootstock, the longest running and leading Bitcoin Layer 2 Blockchain.
This virtual hackathon brings together innovative developers, blockchain enthusiasts, and entrepreneurs to explore and build on the Rootstock network. Rootstock is the first open-source smart contract platform secured by the Bitcoin network, allowing developers to create Solidity-based decentralized applications (dApps) while leveraging Bitcoin's robust security. This hackathon is a unique opportunity to innovate in bitcoin builders’ ecosystem and contribute to the evolving blockchain landscape.
Rootstock supports deploying Smart Contracts since it is EVM-compatible. This means that developers familiar with EVM-compatible dApps can seamlessly build new projects and migrate existing ones to Rootstock.
Rootstock allows developers to harness the security of Bitcoin while utilizing the flexibility of Solidity for smart contract development. By building on Rootstock, participants contribute to the growth of the Bitcoin ecosystem beyond its role as a store of value.
The hackathon aims to foster creativity, collaboration, and technical expertise within the Rootstock ecosystem. Participants are encouraged to push the boundaries of what's possible on the Bitcoin blockchain by creating new dApps, exploring infrastructure solutions, and enhancing cross-chain interoperability.
Main Hackathon Prizes:
1st Place: $7,000 in rBTC
2nd Place: $4,000 in rBTC
3rd Place: $1,000 in rBTC
Special Prizes - Bounty Tracks:
Documentation: 5 prizes of $500 in rBTC
Security: 5 prizes of $500 in rBTC
Additionally, participants can apply for the Rootstock Grants Program offering $25,000 in grants.
Participants are free to explore various topics including Everyday DeFi applications, Ordinals or Runes dApps, Cross-chain Interoperability solutions, Tokenized Real-World Assets (RWA), and more. The hackathon encourages innovation and creativity in leveraging Rootstock's capabilities.
Participants are required to deploy a smart contract on Rootstock with at least 2 successful on-chain transactions (testnet), maintain a GitHub repository with a descriptive README, and create a pitch video showcasing their project's features and functionalities.
To participate, applicants must submit their applications by May 15th, 2024, and upon acceptance, engage in the online hacking phase from May 15th to June 7th, 2024. Winners will be announced on June 10th, 2024.
