What is HomeDAO?

HomeDAO is bringing together the sharpest and most motivated minds to work together on the construction of the third web. The cultural, social, political and economic implications of how the internet’s infrastructure is built and distributed are going to shape the future of humanity in ways incomprehensible to us now, and we intend to play a pivotal role in orienting this.

To this end, we have built a community, supported by physical infrastructure in the form of hacker houses and workspaces, to explore and act upon the most compelling challenges that we face, as an industry and a society. All resident members of HomeDAO live together in HomeDAO hacker houses in either Oxford (the Oxford Crypto Village), or London, and derive long-lasting benefits from full immersion in an entrepreneurial culture.

Life in HomeDAO is a key part of this. We host weekly events and lectures at our HQ, always in person and never recorded, to enable the sharing of hard-to-get advice and uncomfortable secrets that are often hidden from the public eye and only ever whispered. We travel together to hackathons around the world, where we work on new ideas and discover commercial opportunities for our startups. We go to VC dinners to learn from those with a birds-eye view of the industry and meet potential partners. And most importantly, we live and work together, day-in, day-out, exponentiating our learning along the way. 

Joining HomeDAO

Above all, we value the strength of our community, both in our capacity as individuals, and in the bonds of trust and friendship that we form along the way. Thus, joining HomeDAO is not straightforward. We encourage everyone to apply, and accept applications from all walks of life, but becoming a resident member is difficult and requires significant commitment.

Once you have applied here, you will be interviewed by founding and/or resident members of HomeDAO. This will not be a formal call, the intention is more to get to know you and your motivations for joining. Once you have passed this round, you will then be invited to visit in-person. Most prospective members spend around 1 week in a HomeDAO house. During this time, you will get a sense for what it is like to be in HomeDAO and better understand whether it might be a fit for you. The reverse also applies - at the end of your stay, HomeDAO members will anonymously vote on your application, and if you have a super majority of votes, you will be officially admitted as a full HomeDAO member, subject to some basic background checks.

We look for individuals who are outliers in their given fields and have a frontier mindset. There is no Platonic ideal of the HomeDAO member, you will be assessed on your individual merits and abilities. Some HomeDAO members are fellows of Oxford colleges and have many prestigious accolades. Others dropped out of secondary school before finishing their GCSEs. We assess people by our standards, not society’s outdated standards. At the risk of being repetitive, we emphasise that
