Hack for Earth Rules – What you need to do to contribute to a safe and fair hackathon!

🙋🏽‍♀️ Use your real name
Everyone should set their real name (first and last name) as a nickname on this platform. That makes it a whole lot easier for other participants to find you and the Hack for Earth Team to know which team you are on.

💖 Remain respectful at all times and be kind to each other

Be nice to each other on this platform and in the hackathon in general. We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical appearance, body size, disability, or marital status. We have zero tolerance of offensive behaviour, harassment or discrimination in any shape or form.

🌏 Language

To make everyone feel included we have one main language of communication. All conversations should therefore be in English. Using other languages are allowed on private conversations or within teams if decided so internally in the group, but make sure to be considerate and mindful so everyone can contribute and feel included.

Stay humble and respectful and let's hack for a better future! ✊🏽

A reminder of the eligibility requirements

There are some important requirements for all team members to think about before starting with the hackathon process:

  • All team members need to be 16+ years old to participate in this global Hack for Earth Hackathon.

  • Alla teams need to register all their team members in our communication platform Discord and our hackathon platform TAIKAI before the deadline for team registration (which is 48 hours after the hackathon starts). This means that all individuals that will compete in the hackathon need to be filled in the team registration, and these must be the actual participants. You will be able to update your registered team members in case things change along the hackathon period.

  • You can not use an idea that you have already hacked on in previous hackathons or information from previous pitches! Everything you do needs to be a new idea only developed during this hackathon.

  • Companies can compete but only with a new idea/product, no start-ups looking for funding for an existing idea can compete, nor any other existing solution or product can enter the hackathon.

Important to consider

👩🏻‍💻 Hack for Earth will take place digitally and therefore participation requires a stable internet connection and a laptop.

🕙 All announcements will be done in a specific timezone (for livestreams, deadlines etc) and will be based on UAE timezone (GMT+4).

🚀 You and your team will choose one of the seven challenge categories to compete in. To read more about each challenge category and all UN SDGs covered in each category click here.
