<h2>The 3rd CASSINI Hackathon: (Re)Visit Europe 🏖️</h2><h2> </h2>Explore new destinations as you uplift the tourism sector with resilience, sustainability and digitalisation during the 3rd CASSINI Hackathon.The EU and regional and national governments needs your help to to revitalise tourism and create new, climate-friendly ways to access European destinations!We’ve assembled problem solvers from across Europe to develop sustainable solutions that will stabilize and advance Europe's Tourism sector . Follow the projects tab from 12-14 May to see how the ideas are developing then join us on 19 May at 18:00 CET as the top teams pitch to become the overall winner of the hackathon at our Demo Day &amp; Awards Ceremony. The hackathon is open to anyone enthusiastic about entrepreneurship, tourism and EU space technologies. Embark on the challenge of your choice using one or a combination of the following tools: <h3>Challenge #1: Finding sustainable destinations</h3> Design products, devices or services that enable to reduce the carbon footprint of tourism travel. If you choose this challenge, you’ll be encouraged to dive into the areas of carbon footprint measurement of travel, understanding travel patterns between cities/countries, alternative destinations and/or modes of transport, online travel agents and other intermediaries and new, disruptive travel concepts.<h3> </h3><h3>Challenge #2: Experiencing cities and cultures</h3> Design products, devices or services that offer tourists a unique and sustainable experience of our cities and cultural heritage. If you choose this challenge, you’ll be encouraged to explore topics such as crowd management and slow tourism, personal recommendations and itineraries, social recognition and social media, state-of-the-art, virtual travel experiences and support local businesses and communities<h3> </h3><h3>Challenge #3: Exploring nature with care</h3> Design products, devices or services that can help offer tourists a unique and sustainable opportunity to explore our nature. If you choose this challenge, you’ll be encouraged to focus on tourist information about the environmental state, conservation of local nature and biodiversity, generation of (new) routes, points of interest and activities, social recognition and social media and support local businesses and communities. Meet the local organisers below: Graz, Austria: Science Park Graz - Join the event in person or virtually!The local hub in Austria will be organised by Science Park Graz as part of AplusB, the Austrian Incubator Network. AplusB aims to bridge the gap between academia and business to help increase the success rate of innovative, technology-orientated start-ups. The European Space Agency's Business Incubation Centre in Austria is the place for entrepreneurs, start-ups, SMEs, researchers, and students to improve life on Earth through the commercialisation of innovative space-enabled products and services in every part of the economy. Nîmes, France: MURMURATION &amp; Open Tourisme Lab - Join the event in person or virtually!The local hub in France will be organised in a collaboration between Murmuration and OTL. Murmuration is an SME that aims to put the environment at the heart of decision-making. By providing monitoring KPIs and forecasts for the tourism industry, their solutions are perfect for decision-makers who want to understand, monitor, report and change the impact tourism has on the environment. OTL (Open Tourisme Lab) is an open innovation platform that sits at the heart of the tourism industry's efforts to create innovative solutions to global challenges. They've created a range of solutions to help develop new ideas for businesses and aim to help accelerate start-ups towards a brighter future in tourism. Athens, Greece: Corallia - Join the event in person or virtually!The local hub in Greece will be organised by Corallia, as part of the Athena Research Center. As an incubator, youth entrepreneurship accelerator and multi-cluster facilitator, Corallia has a vision to develop an environment with the right conditions to help sciences, innovation, and entrepreneurship flourish in Greece. Corallia helps co-ordinate two highly specialised technology clusters in Greece with over 100 members and has already been awarded the Gold Label Certificate of Excellence. They also manage the ESA BIC Greece and Innohub, another industry-leading innovation centre. Budapest, Hungary: Design Terminal - Join the event in person or virtually!The local hub in Hungary will be organised by Design Terminal. Based in Budapest, Design Terminal is Central Europe's leading innovation agency and prides themselves in building "Innovation Champions" through incubation, talent acceleration and corporate partnerships. They believe that entrepreneurial culture is based on optimism as a driving force for meaningful innovation. Thanks to this approach they became the Business Incubation Centre of the European Space Agency in 2021. Rome, Italy: Lazio Innova - Join the event in person or virtually!The local hub in Italy will be organised by Lazio Innova SpA. As the in-house agency for innovation, research and entrepreneurship for the local Government of Regione Lazio in Italy, Lazio Innova SpA sits at the forefront of promotion and development for the region's entrepreneurial and productive ecosystem. Lazio Innova SpA continues to provide a range of services and support to help facilitate market access, expansion, training, and funding for a range of entrepreneurial projects. They have also hosted the ESA Business Incubation Centre of Lazio (ESA BIC Lazio) since 2009, making it one of the first ESA space incubators. Rotterdam, Netherlands:  Space Business Innovation Centre Noordwijk- Join the event in person or virtually!The local hub in the Netherlands will be organised by The Space Business Innovation Centre (SBIC) Noordwijk. The SBIC is dedicated to bringing the possibilities of space technologies to earth via entrepreneurship. They offer a wide range of programmes, workshops, and events for every stage of the entrepreneurial journey and give unrivalled access to an international network of tools, knowledge, and finance. Kristiansand, Norway: Bølgen bærekraftsenter - Join the event in person or virtually!The local hub in Norway will be organised by Bølgen bærekraftsenter. As a regional centre for Sustainability, Bølgen bærekraftsenter brings together business people, environmentalists, innovators, and academics to collaborate on sustainable change. By organising the CASSINI Hackathon Norway, they aim to build new alliances and add a valuable international dimension to the fostering of technology as a tool for sustainable destination development. Kraków, Poland: Kraków Technology Park - Join the event in person or virtually!The local hub in Poland will be organised by the Krakow Technology Park. For almost 25 years, they've helped businesses grow fast at every development stage and have been the beating heart of innovative tech start-ups both in Poland and beyond. With a focus on incubation programmes for Industry 4.0, Digital Innovation, Space, and Gaming, they're the perfect partner for the Polish region. Coimbra, Portugal: Instituto Pedro Nunes - Join the event in person or virtually!The local hub in Portugal will be organised by IPN - Instituto Pedro Nunes. IPN is a private non-profit association with a mission to promote innovation and technology transfer, alongside establishing a strong link between scientific and technological environments. IPN has expertise in several complementary areas. Headquartered in Coimbra, it also runs 6 laboratories, a training department, an innovation department, an incubator programme and more. IPN sits at the forefront of the convergence between innovative start-ups, tech entrepreneurs and space solutions.

<h2>Rules are important to run a safe and fair hackathon!</h2> Please read the full set of rules in our <a href="https://hackathons.cassini.eu/terms-conditions.pdf" target="_blank">Terms &amp; Conditions</a>. We have summarised the most important ones for you below: ✔️ Eligibility criteria. You must live in an EU Member State, Norway, Iceland or Switzerland and be 18 years or older to participate in the hackathon competition. All teams must have at least 3 team members, and can go up to a maximum of 8 members. 💻 Fresh code only. To ensure a level field for all contestants, all code must be created by the team, during the Hackathon Weekend. But you are permitted to use publicly available or openly licensed APIs, SDKs, frameworks and other software libraries for your project. Any software development tools and/or programming language can be used. 🤲 Everyone is welcome. We welcome all participants regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical appearance, body size, disability, or marital status. 💜 Be nice to each other. We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical appearance, body size, disability, or marital status. <h2>Discover the prizes</h2> <h3>The hackathon competition ⚔️</h3>How does the hackathon competition work? At the end of the Hackathon Weekend each hackathon location will organise a pitch contest to select the local winner and runner-ups. The local winners will then be invited to present their hackathon project during the Demo Day, where a professional jury will select the 3 overall winners of the hackathon. The best hackathon projects will be awarded at both local and EU levels. <h3>Overall prizes 🌠</h3>The top three hackathon teams will gain access to CASSINI Mentoring, a 6-month mentoring programme that includes 100 hours of mentoring by top experts and is designed to turn their hackathon project into a successful business. <h3>Local prizes 🎁</h3>Each hackathon location has their own unique set of prizes for the local winners and runner-ups. <h2>Frequently Asked Questions</h2> <div><div>Who can take part in the CASSINI Hackathons?Any person of legal age who resides in an EU Member State, Norway, Switzerland, or Iceland. How can I register?Register before 5 May on the TAIKAI platform Do I have to register with a team?No, not at all. All participants must register as an individual and form the team after registering using the hackathon platform. Instructions will be provided after the registration process is complete. Do I have to know how to code to participate?No, we encourage anyone with a passion for entrepreneurship, nature, and EU space technologies to participate. Bring your creative, business or design skills to a team! Can I apply if I have no knowledge of Copernicus, Galileo, or EGNOS data and signals?Yes! We will provide you with the relevant training and access to data that you will need to succeed - even without prior knowledge. Can I apply if I don’t have a concept in mind prior to the hackathon?Yes! Before the hackathon comes The Big Idea campaign. This week-long series of events will set the scene and allow participants to meet and form teams (if they haven't already done so). This provides the opportunity for teams and participants to brainstorm ideas, share thoughts and pitch their ideas. It is not required to have a concept or idea in mind prior to application. If there is no hackathon organised in my country, can I apply to the nearest one?Yes.
