<h3>What is CASSINI Hackathon: Space for International Development &amp; Humanitarian Aid?</h3><p>CASSINI Hackathons is a bi-yearly technology event, spanning over three days of non-stop technical talks, workshops, competitions, and coding. For 60 hours straight, around 1,000 participants can enjoy world-class presentations, demos, community events, and its classic 48-hour coding competition.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Do I have to know how to code to participate?</h3><p>No, we encourage anyone with a passion for entrepreneurship, creative industry, and EU space technologies to participate. Bring your creative, business or design skills to a team!</p><p><br /></p><h3>Can I apply if I have no knowledge of Copernicus, Galileo, or EGNOS data and signals?</h3><p>Yes! We will provide you with the relevant training and access to data that you will need to succeed - even without prior knowledge.</p><p><br /></p><h3>How are applicants selected?</h3><p>CASSINI Hackathons: Space for International Development &amp; Humanitarian Aid curators aim at selecting the best, most participative and motivated, programmers and creatives. For this, they rely on what candidates fill in their profiles (their pitches and personal bios) and evidence of engagement in previous editions (if applicable). CVs don't matter, please don't paste full CVs as an application pitch. What matters is your potential and your passion for technology, no matter your level of experience.</p><p><br /></p><h3>If there is no hackathon organised in my country, can I apply to the nearest one?</h3><p>Yes. The CASSINI Hackathons will have several hybrid locations, and you may apply to those. Just select a hackathon location that has the option of participating virtually.</p><p><br /></p><h3>How much does it cost?</h3><p>CASSINI Hackathons: Space for International Development &amp; Humanitarian Aid is free for all selected candidates.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Do I have to register with a team?</h3><p>No, not at all. All participants must register as an individual and form a team after registering using the hackathon platform. Instructions will be provided after the registration process is complete.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Can I register our company employees in bulk?</h3><p>No. Candidates must register and apply individually.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Can I apply if I don’t have a concept in mind prior to the hackathon?</h3><p>Yes! Before the hackathon comes The Big Ideas Campaign (9 - 19 October). This week-long series of events will set the scene and provides the opportunity for teams and participants to brainstorm ideas. It is not required to have a concept or idea in mind prior to application.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Can I bring a guest to the event?</h3><p>No. In the hackathon competition can only participate the people that registered for the hackathon.</p><p><br /></p><h3>I was selected but can't attend the event, what do I do?</h3><p>Please let us know. Spots are limited and it would be nice if another candidate could go instead (but no, you cannot choose who that candidate might be).</p><p><br /></p><h3>When will the schedule be available?</h3><p>A detailed schedule will be available closer to the event, on our website.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Will there be a live stream from the event?</h3><p>Yes, live streaming will be available. The feed will be focused on the activities taking place on the main stage, such as talks and contests. When nothing is going on there, you can expect a general transmission of the event.</p><p><br /></p><h3>Why is the official language English?</h3><p>We have attendees coming from all over Europe. English is usually well understood and accepted. Our main motivation is technology and talent, and these are global attributes, so our main 'language' is what we use to code. English is not the only language at the event, though. We’re assembling problem solvers from across Europe to develop sustainable solutions that support international development and humanitarian activities. Take part in this brand new edition of the CASSINI Hackathons and get the chance to win one of three overall prizes: <strong>6 months of expert mentoring </strong>from notable professionals in the space industry! Depending if you have an account on TAIKAI or if you have to create one. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?</h3><p><br /></p><p>Students, entrepreneurs, engineers, designers, researchers and others are welcome to participate. You are eligible if <strong>you are 18 years old </strong><strong>or older</strong> at the start of the Hackathon (3 November) and <strong>reside in an EU Member State</strong>, Norway, Switzerland, or Iceland. All teams must have at least 3 team members and can go up to a maximum of 8 members.</p><p><br /></p><h3>5. Join hundreds of participants around Europe and in Ukraine as you develop new products and services that contribute to the future of infrastructure, food security, clean water supply, and forced migration. Each location will select one winning team at the end of the weekend to move on to the Demo Day &amp; Awards Ceremony.</p><p>🏆<strong> 9 November | Demo Day &amp; Awards Ceremony</strong></p><p>The winners of the local hackathons from around Europe will come together to pitch their solutions in front of an expert jury that will select the top 3 hackathon projects. JUDGING CRITERIA</h3><p><br /></p><p>Both at the local level and the European level your solutions will be judged against three simple criteria.</p><ol><li><strong>Relevance (33%) - </strong>Does the project address one of the hackathon's three challenges? Does the project make use of Copernicus, Galileo and/or EGNOS data and signals?</li><li><strong>Innovativeness (33%) - </strong>How innovative is the idea compared to products/services that are already on the market? <h2>Meet the local organisers</h2><p><br /></p><p><strong>The Space for International Development &amp; Humanitarian Aid CASSINI Hackathon is set for 3-5 November 2023!</strong> This edition we are utilising EU space technologies to bring about real change that improves the design and delivery of humanitarian assistance and international development around the world! This pan-European hackathon is challenging Europe’s entrepreneurs, researchers, students, and young professionals to make a lasting impact on international development and humanitarian aid. Meet the selected local organisers for this new set of challenges:</p><p><br /></p><h3>1. Belgium: IDELUX Développement</h3><p><a href="https://www.idelux.be/fr/accueil.html?IDC=2497" target="_blank">IDELUX Développement</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Belgium! This consortium is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the population in the province of Luxembourg. Their primary focus is on the economic development of the region, providing a suite of services to businesses that include mentoring, low-carbon counselling, and business model challenges. As a member of the consortium, Galaxia Space Innovation (GSI) have extensive experience supporting young and innovative start-ups in the space sector. With their previous experience, partnerships, and network they are aiming to provide a stimulating environment that aligns perfectly with the hackathon’s theme.</p><p><br /></p><h3>2. Croatia: Algebra University College</h3><p><a href="https://www.algebra.hr/visoko-uciliste/en/" target="_blank">Algebra University College (AUC)</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Croatia! AUC is an accredited higher educational institution active in the fields of computer engineering and economy. Algebra LAB (AUC’s innovation centre) is an open innovation lab, offering applicative R&amp;D solutions for entrepreneurs who develop solutions relying on digital technologies. They have the oldest and the most successful in-house tech start-up incubator in Croatia and so far, have incubated 15 batches of start-up companies, and more than 160 start-ups in total. By joining the CASSINI Hackathons, they seek to actively contribute to fostering the next generation of space entrepreneurs.</p><p><br /></p><h3>3. Estonia: Garage48</h3><p><a href="https://garage48.org/" target="_blank">Garage48</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Estonia! This organisation has extensive experience in project management and implementation of complex international projects. Garage 48 has developed a global network of mentors, participants and partners who keep coming back and contributing to the open innovation events that boost the entrepreneurial skills among the participants for doing business or running a financially viable non-profit organisation. This organisation focuses on IT consulting and services to aid in the development of digital products that can tackle social problems globally. N3XTCODER has 10+ years of work experience within the global social impact community, the financial sector, and a vast technology-focused network including partnerships with prestigious German ministries, international corporations, universities, and NGOs. N3XTCODER, in line with the CASSINI Hackathons, are deeply committed to utilizing data for good and building solutions that can effectively address the most pressing problems of today.</p><p><br /></p><h3>5. Netherlands: Stichting dotSPACE &amp; Royal HaskoningDHV</h3><p><a href="https://www.royalhaskoningdhv.com/" target="_blank">dotSPACE &amp; Royal HaskoningDHV (RHDHV)</a> will be organising the Hackathon in the Netherlands! Both are active in the field of space applications and are experienced in organising hackathons. dotSPACE is a leading expert centre dedicated to unlocking the vast potential of space data. With a focus on Earth Observation technology, dotSPACE plays a large role in addressing critical challenges in public health, food security, smart cities, and agriculture. RHDHV is a global engineering and project management consultancy firm that provides various services in the fields of water, infrastructure, maritime, aviation, and sustainable development. Together, with the CASSINI Hackathons, they aim to improve society through people, expertise, partnerships, and innovations.</p><p><br /></p><h3>6. Poland: Krakowski Park Technologiczny</h3><p><a href="https://www.kpt.krakow.pl/en/" target="_blank">Krakowski Park Technology Park (KTP)</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Poland! Kraków Technology Park has been co-creating conditions for the development of entrepreneurship for over 25 years, one of them being the management of the Technology Incubator for ICT start-ups. KTP has experience with the provision and organisation of various types of events supporting entrepreneurs and start-ups, including acceleration and incubation programmes, events, and hackathons, such as Act in Space for Space and Startup Weekend for ICT. KTP aims to create a space where they can support young entrepreneurs in maximising their capabilities for problem-solving.</p><p><br /></p><h3>7. Portugal: Ripply Flow</h3><p><a href="https://www.ripply.net/" target="_blank">Ripply Flow, Lda</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Portugal! Ripply Flow focuses on fostering a data ecosystem by creating connections among its stakeholders through competitions, technical conferences, and other initiatives. Ripply Flow has organised data competitions and hackathons for various city councils and major Portuguese companies including Porto city council and Millennium BCP (the largest commercial bank in Portugal). The team has also co-founded World Data League, a non-profit online competition focused on advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Seeking to push their data ecosystem further, they aim to make their hackathon a place for bold innovation.</p><p><br /></p><h3>8. Romania: Romania Tech Startups Association</h3><p><a href="https://rotsa.ro/en/homepage-en/" target="_blank">Romania Tech Startups Association (ROTSA)</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Romania! ROTSA is the umbrella organization dedicated to the development of tech start-ups, with activities in all 4 main tech cities in Romania. Having organised over 30 start-up and tech hackathons, and with strategic acceleration and investment partnerships with entities such as the Romanian Space Agency and the Ministry of Research &amp; Development, they are committed to enhancing the capabilities of European space technology with the help of Romanian-born space technologies. The CASSINI Hackathons are the perfect opportunity to do so.</p><p><br /></p><h3>9. Slovenia: Tovarna Podjemov (Venture Factory)</h3><p><a href="https://venturefactory.org/" target="_blank">Tovarna Podjemov (Venture Factory)</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Slovenia! With over 20 years of acceleration experience and 14 organised hackathons, Venture Factory is a purpose-driven business &amp; ecosystem building organisation that helps ambitious companies challenge the status quo. To do so, they leverage the resources and networks from their PODIM conference (one of the most influential startup and tech events in the Central and Eastern Europe region), and Start:up, their start-up ecosystem platform. By connecting a vast network of entrepreneurs, mentors, experts, investors, and institutions they aim to support the CASSINI Hackathons in creating a better tomorrow.</p><p><br /></p><h3>10. Spain: Knowledge Innovation Market BCN</h3><p><a href="https://kimglobal.com/en/kimbcn/" target="_blank">Fundació Privada Knowledge Innovation Market BCN (KIMbcn)</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Spain! KIMbcn, supported by the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC) and the Cartographical and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC) have strongly collaborated in the promotion and uptake of space-based developments in Catalonia and have become key players of the new space economy in Catalonia. The consortium will take advantage of their existing cooperation schemes, the combined knowledge of space developments and unique experience in organising space data-oriented hackathons to organise an impactful hackathon.</p><p><br /></p><p><strong>We are pleased to announce that for the 6th edition of the CASSINI Hackathons, we will have an additional special organiser joining us from Ukraine. Their expertise and contribution will further enhance the impact of our event and opens the door to many talented Ukrainians with an interest in space technology to join a hackathon with a purpose.</strong></p><h3>11. Ukraine: Ukrainian Startup Fund</h3><p><a href="https://usf.com.ua/en/" target="_blank">Ukrainian Startup Fund (USF)</a> will be organising the Hackathon in Ukraine! USF is an organisation that promotes the creation and growth of technology start-ups in Ukraine. With their vast experience in supporting tech start-ups, USF will be a valuable addition to the pool of local organisers, promoting space innovation among their entrepreneurial ecosystems.</p>

<h2>Rules are important to run a safe and fair hackathon!</h2><p><br /></p><p>Please read the full set of rules in our <a href="https://www.cassini.eu/hackathons/terms-conditions.pdf" target="_blank">Terms &amp; Conditions</a>. We have summarised the most important ones for you below:</p><ul><li><strong>✔️ Eligibility criteria.</strong> You must live in an EU Member State, Norway, Iceland or Switzerland and be 18 years or older to participate in the hackathon competition. All teams must have at least 3 team members and can go up to a maximum of 8 members.</li><li><strong>💻 Fresh code only.</strong> To ensure a level field for all contestants, all code must be created by the team, during the Hackathon Weekend. But you are permitted to use publicly available or openly licensed APIs, SDKs, frameworks and other software libraries for your project. Any software development tools and/or programming language can be used.</li><li><strong>🤲 Everyone is welcome.</strong> We welcome all participants regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical appearance, body size, disability, or marital status.</li><li><strong>💜 Be nice to each other.</strong> We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical appearance, body size, disability, or marital status. We do not tolerate harassment on our platforms in any form. </li><li><strong>⛔ Use your time and energy to innovate for good</strong>, not to make the world a worse place.
