Mala Dinja - Valeria

   The fundamental problem that has been haunting society since the dawn of the industrial revolution is dumping waste directly into bodies of water which in turn pollutes them. Countless rivers, lakes, seas and oceans have been the target of nearby factories and their pollutants.

Problem: 

• Inadequate On-Site Pre-Treatment
• Regulatory Loopholes and Weak Enforcement.
• Local Issue: Saving the Vardar river

   Our project focuses on minimizing this. We use satellite data to examine the pollution of bodies of water as a whole, locating the companies/population hubs that could be the culprits for said pollution, as well as the consequences and issues that will arise if no action is taken.

   The business model is mainly focused on governments and state inspectorates which will use our service to get notified when certain waterways are endangered or showing signs of increased pollution, but there is also a version made for the factories themselves and a free web version.

   The service for professionals is subscription based just like the one for governments but has different functionalities such as advanced pollutant dispersion modeling, accounting for groundwater flow, wind patterns, and surface runoff, as well as scenario simulation, i.e how the operations of a new factory would affect the waterways near it.

   The free service allows any user, through our website, to search and inquire about a river of interest and find the factories/farmland/quarries/etc that could be affecting the waterway and if there are signs of that pollution (from our aforementioned satellite data).
