Description

GeoAgTech

The idea is to identify heat sinks, rainwater collection sites, and other urban characteristics in cities that would benefit from Green Factor Elements to increase there Green Factor score.

This technology would leverage tools like the Green Factor calculator and geospatial technologies to promote development of urban agriculture as greenspaces.

The rationale and benefits of green spaces include the following:

- reducing distance from cultivation to consumption

- reducing temperature in concrete jungles in summer

- closer to working population and providing employment for urban dwellers

- control of fertilisers

- reduction or elimination of pesticides

- green walls can provide sound and temperature insulation on buildings

- green walls or trees and bushes along busy roads and railways can reduce sound polution

- microforests can improve air quality and provide sound absorption to reduce sound polution

Space Technologies

Satellite GeoSpatial analysis variables such as Leaf Chlorophyll Content and Leaf Cover to determine which sites would benefit most from Urban agriculture.

Challenge

The challenge we responded to is: supporting sustainable infrastructure development.
