💎 Idea

Landslides have devastating consequences and high costs, often causing loss of life and infrastructure damage. Every year the European Union on average has a loss of 4,7 billion euros as a direct cause of landslides.

Our goal is to monitor ground movements and predict potentially ongoing landslides using satellite data from Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, and other sources like weather and terrain details, without relying on IoT sensors. A timely detection would provide a chance for a better reaction, evacuation and fewer fatalities. We provide a desktop solution equipped with clear visualizations and an alerting system.

Our solution benefits from using high-quality imaging provided by Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 combined with machine learning to analyze ground deformation, vegetation, terrain features and changes. By adding weather and other data we are improving our system.

We are solving challenge #1: Geospatial intelligence for defence, humanitarian aid, contingency planning, and security surveillance

Our solution addresses both ‘Optimising resource allocation and delivery for disaster relief’ and ‘Predicting and preparing for potential security threats’.

By providing precise predictions of landslides, enhancing efficiency by visualizing the most vulnerable areas and reducing impact with timely alerts we touch on the ‘Optimising resource allocation and delivery for disaster relief’.

We also address ‘Predicting and preparing for potential security threats’ by improving risk awareness by monitoring ground movements. We support contingency planning by predicting landslides in advance and strengthening defence capabilities by reducing the likelihood of threats escalating.

We support the EU Defence and Security ecosystem by enhancing the ability to improve resilience with better resource planning, anticipating and mitigating risks and ensuring proactive responses to landslide disasters.

We are a team of 6 enthusiastic individuals, each bringing unique expertise to solve this challenge. 

Our cross-disciplinary team combines knowledge of strategic planning, coding, data analysis, machine learning, design and user experience.
