<h2>5th CASSINI Hackathon: Space for Defence and Security</h2> Welcome to our hackathon platform! Interested in EU space and emerging technologies? Eager to innovate the defence and security industry? Take part in this brand new edition of the CASSINI Hackathons and get the chance to win various prizes such as prize money and 6 months of expert mentoring! Check the information below to understand how the CASSINI Hackathons work. <h3>1. FINISH YOUR REGISTRATION</h3> Hit the orange button " ⚡ LOG IN TO JOIN" or "⚡JOIN HACKATHON" button. Depending if you have an account on TAIKAI or you have to create one. Your registration will be finalised once you completed our registration form. There you'll pick your hackathon location.  There you go, now you are part of the 5th CASSINI Hackathon!    As a next step, go to the matchmaking tab and search for teammates. Teams have to be built before the start of the Hackathon Weekend (24 - 26 March).<h3> </h3><h3>2. PRIZES</h3> You are in luck! At the CASSINI Hackathons, you have the chance to win twice . First at a local level and second at a European level if you are among the top 3 winning teams.Local prizes - Each hackathon location has its own unique set of prizes for the local winners and runner-ups. (Click on the hyperlinks for the ten locations in section 3 for more information)Overall prize - At the European level the three top hackathon teams will win the big prize and get access to the CASSINI Mentoring. The 5h CASSINI Hackathons will challenge you to imagine the future of defence and security with the help of European space technologies. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?</h3> All European students, entrepreneurs, engineers, designers, researchers, policymakers, security professionals, and others are welcome to participate. You are eligible if you are 18 years old or older at the start of the Hackathon (24 March) and reside in an EU Member State, Norway, Switzerland, or Iceland. All teams must have at least 3 team members and can go up to a maximum of 8 members.<h3> </h3><h3>5. IMPORTANT DATES</h3> 💡 6 - 17 March | Big Ideas CampaignJoin us for this series of online evening events where we aim to spark your creativity and help you meet fellow team members. We kick off with our launch session, then dive into the key space technologies and how they are used in the defence and security industry. Pick and choose the sessions that interest you and be ready to be inspired. The agenda will be published at the start of February.📅 22 March | Registration deadlineRegister before the deadline - this applies for both you AND your teammates.🤓 24 - 26 March | The Hackathon WeekendThe main event! Join hundreds of participants around Europe as you develop new products and services that contribute to the future of defence and security. Each location will select one winning team at the end of the weekend to move on to the Demo Day &amp; Awards Ceremony.🏆 30 March | Demo Day &amp; Awards CeremonyThe 10 local winners from around Europe will come together to pitch their solutions in front of an expert jury board that will select the top 3 hackathon projects. This event will be made public to everyone. <h3>6. JUDGING CRITERIA</h3> Both at the local level and the European level your solutions will be judged against three simple criteria.<ol><li>Relevance (33%) - Does the project address one of the hackathon's three challenges? Does the project make use of Copernicus, Galileo and/or EGNOS data and signals?</li><li>Innovativeness (33%) - How innovative is the idea compared to products/services that are already on the market? Is there potential for a viable business case?</li></ol>        3. Quality of the team (33%) - Do the technical, business and creative expertise of the team members match the needs of the project? <h2>Discover the prizes</h2> <h3>The hackathon competition ⚔️</h3>At the end of the Hackathon Weekend (24-26 March), each hackathon location will organise a pitch contest to select the local winner and runner-ups. The local winners (one team per location) will then be invited to present their project during Demo Day (30 March), where a professional jury will select the 3 overall winners of the hackathon. <h3>What is CASSINI Hackathon: Space for Defence and Security?</h3>CASSINI Hackathons: Space for Defence and Security is a bi-yearly technology event, spanning over three days of non-stop technical talks, workshops, competitions, and coding. For 60 hours straight, around 1,000 participants can enjoy world-class presentations, demos, community events, and its classic 48-hour coding competition. <h3>Do I have to know how to code to participate?</h3>No, we encourage anyone with a passion for entrepreneurship, creative industry, and EU space technologies to participate. Bring your creative, business or design skills to a team! <h3>Can I apply if I have no knowledge of Copernicus, Galileo, or EGNOS data and signals?</h3>Yes! We will provide you with the relevant training and access to data that you will need to succeed - even without prior knowledge. <h3>How are applicants selected?</h3>CASSINI Hackathons: Space for the Financial World curators aim at selecting the best, most participative and motivated, programmers and creatives. For this, they rely on what candidates fill in their profiles (their pitches and personal bios) and evidence of engagement in previous editions (if applicable). CVs don't matter, please don't paste full CVs as an application pitch. What matters is your potential and your passion for technology, no matter your level of experience. <h3>If there is no hackathon organised in my country, can I apply to the nearest one?</h3>Yes. The CASSINI Hackathons will have several hybrid locations, and you may apply to those. Just select a hackathon location that has the option of participating virtually. <h3>How much does it cost?</h3>CASSINI Hackathons: Space for Defence and Security is free for all selected candidates. <h3>Do I have to register with a team?</h3>No, not at all. All participants must register as an individual and form a team after registering using the hackathon platform. Instructions will be provided after the registration process is complete.<h3> </h3><h3>Can I register our company employees in bulk?</h3>No. Candidates must register and apply individually. <h3>Can I apply if I don’t have a concept in mind prior to the hackathon?</h3>Yes! Before the hackathon comes The Big Idea Campaign (6 - 17 March). This week-long series of events will set the scene and provides the opportunity for teams and participants to brainstorm ideas. It is not required to have a concept or idea in mind prior to application. <h3>Do you pay for the attendees' transportation and/or accommodation costs?</h3>No. However, there may be discounts and other partnerships. If so, these will be announced in the months leading to the event, so make sure you follow us on one of the social networks where we're present. <h3>Can I bring a guest to the event?</h3>No. In the hackathon competition can only participate the people that registered for the hackathon. <h3>I was selected but can't attend the event, what do I do?</h3>Please let us know. Spots are limited and it would be nice if another candidate could go instead (but no, you cannot choose who that candidate might be). <h3>When will the schedule be available?</h3>A detailed schedule will be available closer to the event, on our website <h3>Will there be a live stream from the event?</h3>Yes, live streaming will be available. The feed will be focused on the activities taking place on the main stage, such as talks and contests. When nothing is going on there, you can expect a general transmission of the event. <h3>Will the talks be recorded?</h3>Unless the speaker states otherwise, every talk will be recorded and available online in the weeks following the event. <h3>Why is the official language English?</h3>We have attendees coming from all over Europe. English is usually well understood and accepted. Our main motivation is technology and talent, and these are global attributes, so our main 'language' is what we use to code. English is not the only language at the event, though. The event is bilingual, so there may be talks held in the local language of the hackathon location. <h2>Rules are important to run a safe and fair hackathon!</h2> Please read the full set of rules in our Terms &amp; Conditions. We have summarized the most important ones for you below:<ul><li>✔️ Eligibility criteria. You must live in an EU Member State, Norway, Iceland or Switzerland and be 18 years or older to participate in the hackathon competition. All teams must have at least 3 team members and can go up to a maximum of 8 members.</li><li>💻 Fresh code only. To ensure a level field for all contestants, all code must be created by the team, during the Hackathon Weekend. But you are permitted to use publicly available or openly licensed APIs, SDKs, frameworks and other software libraries for your project. Any software development tools and/or programming language can be used.</li><li>🤲 Everyone is welcome. We welcome all participants regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical appearance, body size, disability, or marital status.</li><li>💜 Be nice to each other. We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, age, physical appearance, body size, disability, or marital status. We do not tolerate harassment on our platforms in any form. </li><li>⛔ Use your time and energy to innovate for good, not to make the world a worse place.
