TaroHacks, a week-long, student-run, online hackathon taking place from August 1st to August 8th, 2020, was founded by FTC Team Taro, a robotics team from Santa Clara, CA, with the mission to give more students the opportunity to create meaningful projects and build up their skills even through tough times like now during COVID-19. As a student-run hackathon, we hope to persuade more people that they can code and that they have the ability to make an impact on the world through computer science. Computer science makes up 2/3 of the predicted new jobs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and yet only 1 in 4 schools teach computer science and less than 3% of students graduate with a degree in computer science. With the opportunities we’ve been given through robotics and the experiences we’ve had, we want to share this with more high school students through TaroHacks.

Team Taro is a 7 member robotics team from Santa Clara, California. This is our second year as an FTC team. Our team members this year are: Kavi Rajesh, Kaitlyn Nguyen, Sahana Moogi, Xavier Cairel, James Thornton, Kaushik Salem, and Mokshitaa Dhamotharan. We were formed by the 49ers SLI program last year, but since then have learned and changed a lot. We’ve learned a lot in the last year and hope to do even better this season. We are all students at Santa Clara High and are a part of the 49ers SLI program, and we have a passion and interest in STEM and robotics.
