Inspiration

In the ever-growing world of art, artists from minority communities often remain overlooked due to limited accessibility and systemic barriers. What if we could change that? BRSH (pronounced Brush) was inspired by our determination to make a difference.

BRSH provides a vibrant and inclusive space where emerging artists can showcase their work, find inspiration, and support each other. It aims to become the go-to hub for companies and creative freelancers to connect, empowering artists to take control of their creative careers. By providing these artists with the opportunities they deserve, we can make the art world more diverse and inclusive!

What it Does

BRSH is a platform dedicated to uplifting underrepresented talents in the creative arts. We embarked on a journey to create BRSH with a vision of crafting the perfect platform for aspiring creative artists to showcase their creativity, grow their portfolios, and find freelance opportunities — all in one place.

This initiative addresses the lack of a centralized system for underrepresented creative artists, aiming to be the go-to hub for companies to connect with them, thereby empowering artists with the opportunities they need to thrive in the art world.

We have gamified the platform to enhance user engagement. Users can participate in competitions, like, and comment on posts to increase their scores, which are displayed on a leaderboard. This system provides added incentive and helps prevent procrastination.

Furthermore, the platform includes advanced detection for AI-generated artwork, requiring manual admin approval if a significant percentage threshold is crossed. The sign-up process also includes a safeguard to prevent AI from using artwork from the platform to train models.

How We Built It

  • PropelAuth for authentication and user management
  • MongoDB Atlas is utilized for the storage of user data, artwork images, and company contest records.
  • Neurelo to create APIs and integrate our database into the application
  • Supabase for storage and retrieval of high-resolution images
  • SightEngine's AI Generation and Editing Model to detect AI-generated images
  • React frontend
  • Figma and Procreate for the design

Challenges We Ran Into

  • Making POST requests which included images with Neurelo
  • Choosing the best AI-generated image detector

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

Learning PropelAuth and Neurelo along with integrating them into our app was a huge win for our team! We are also proud of all the features we integrated in such a short time. As some of our teammates are first-time hackers, we're proud to say that they enjoyed themselves and learned a lot of new things along the way.

What We Learned

The path to our final concept was a winding one. We began with a basic idea and gradually refined it, leading us to a innovative and meaningful solution. Throughout this process, we've discovered that true innovation often arises from the most surprising sources.

What's Next?

Moving forward, we are hoping to make BRSH come to life. Launching an app with the basic functionality of this prototype in the App Store is the next step!
