Description

Hi Tickethon evaluation team!

As both of us are, first of all, two young and technology-driven individuals, it goes without saying that we both purchase our public transport tickets using the Wiener Linien app. That said, we fully understand how time-consuming the process of checking those tickets can be, not only for your colleagues but also for the users of those tickets. To be completely honest, this idea came to us even before we had seen the challenge.

Before briefly describing our idea, we would like to ask one question. What are the 2 items that we never leave our houses without? Those are, of course, phone and keys. That is the reason why we have decided to use keys and phone as a platform for our solution, and not in a metaphorical way 🙂

As our solution, we would like to present to you - “Sticket” ! Our idea is to simply print out a unique QR code for every user that would be shipped to them via post in 2 different options. They could choose between receiving their unique QR code as a sticker that they could put on their phone (preferable for app users), receiving their unique QR code on a small key chain that (preferable for traditional ticket holders), or both options. We believe this to be a considerably more robust approach than relying simply on a smartphone app, while also being effortless and in most cases requiring minimal interaction between the user and the Wiener Linien personnel (please see “Sticket illustration” presentation in the assets section).

This solution relies on the already existing technology already being utilized by Wiener Linien, so there would be no need for any investments in further technological developments. Wiener Linien controllers could scan the code using devices and apps that are already being used and as a result, would receive a confirmation if this ticket is valid. All that is required from the technical perspective is a very simple modification - instead of asigning the QR code to each ticket, the QR code would be uniquely identifying a user, allowing the user to purchase any digital ticket through the app and have its validity readily checked. The app would also fetch the picture of the user (already available from the existing database), which ensures that the users are not abusing the “Stickets” belonging to someone else.

This way each Wiener Linien user needs to be issued their “Sticket” only once, eliminating additional costs and materials of the current model, which in turn leads to a greener, more environmentally-friendly. The same principle would work for key chain QR codes.

Besides that, as you can see in the slides attached, QR codes would be styled to look like the Wiener Linien logo, so not only that they would be practical, they would also look cool (please see the files in the assets section). Apart from the original proposal shown in the ‘Sticket design proposal’ file of the assets section, it is easy to imagine many other possible designs, making for an aesthetically appealing and trendy item.
