EcoPod

The EcoPod is a device equipped with the electrical and mechanical systems necessary to use the natural resources around it and transform them into green electrical energy (wind, solar, hydric, etc.). Its design allows the flexibility of its location compared to traditional solar and wind farms, and can be used in urban areas to generate energy in space that would not previously be used.

The EcoPod is a product that sells itself, it is a product that wants to be at the forefront to create a greener future. A future thinking not only about the environment and people's quality of life, but also at a business level, taking into account the necessary requirements of companies and at the same time the targets granted by the EU for decarbonization until 2050.

Meet the team

Our team is made up of 3 students who are part of the core of students of Instituto Superior Técnico called Técnico Solar Boat, in which their focus is to build boats based on alternative energies such as solar energy and hydrogen. With the experience we gained by participating in this learning environment, we were able to gain a better practical knowledge of renewable energy technologies and their applications, which motivated us to continue to innovate and discover new solutions to problems with an environmental focus and that harbor our branch of knowledge.

Problem description

According to PORDATA data in 2020, energy consumption in Portugal from non-renewable energies represented 69.5% of all national energy consumption, with 40.9% from Oil and 25% from Natural Gas (Fossil fuels that emit large amounts of harmful gases into the atmosphere).

Due to a growing energy crisis, there is increasing pressure to adopt more sustainable energy.

The most effective force to combat this consumption is the technological evolution of renewable energies for the eventual substitution of the remaining energy sources.
