I'm Ricardo (@ricmarques on Twitter), a 42 years old Portuguese male. At work, my main job function is Systems Administration with more emphasis on the areas of Linux and Virtualization (VMware).

I have a few IT Certifications "under my belt" like the RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer - valid but non-current since December 2017), the SCE (SUSE Certified Engineer), the LFCE (Linux Foundation Certified Engineer) and VCP6-DCV (VMware Certified Professional 6 - Data Center Virtualization), among others.

I have a 5 years "Licenciatura" (pre-Bologna Undergraduate Degree) in Business Management that I completed in 1999 and a 3 years "Licenciatura" (Bologna Undergraduate Degree) in "Computer Science" that I completed in December 2016 … AND I'm now attending a THIRD "Licenciatura" in "Computer Engineering". Because - you know - finishing just TWO "Licenciaturas" wasn't punishment enough! ;-)

I have attended the 2009, 2010 and 2011 editions of SAPO Codebits. Maybe you have heard of it? ;-)

From 2012 to 2015, I did not apply to Codebits, because I got really busy with my 2nd Licenciatura. In 2016, I applied and I got accepted to the first edition of Pixels Camp (yay!) … but I had to withdraw my application due to work related issues (d'oh!). On 2017, I applied and got accepted (again, yay!) to the 2nd edition of Pixels Camp and this time I was able to attend it, during the 3 days of the event. It was really great! :-)

The coding that I still do is mostly in Perl and "shell scripts" (for the "bash" shell) for automating system administration tasks in Linux servers and in PowerShell / PowerCLI for automating VMware tasks. In "previous lives", I coded web applications in PHP for LAMP (Linux + Apache + MySQL + PHP/Perl/Python) based projects and also in ASP ("Active Server Pages"), both "classic ASP" - ASP + VBScript - and ASP.Net - using C#
