Biography

My PhD degree has been obtained on December 2016 in a public defense with an international jury. This PhD has been fulfilled in a co-tutelage agreement between the University of Coimbra (UC) and University of Angers (UA), allowing me to work on both institutions. By seeing different working methods on different institutions, I could learn from the strengths of each method and improve my own research skills.

After the end of my PhD, I continued to work at the integrated research center LIBPhys-UC (Laboratório de Instrumentação, Engenharia Biomédica e Física das Radiações) as a post-doctoral research on the field of biomedical optics from January 2017 until August 2017 in two different projects. The first one was the continuation of my PhD project, entitled Methods for hemodynamic parameters measurement using the laser speckle effect in macro and microcirculation. The second project is related with the use of a new imaging technology denominated single pixel imaging where two and three dimensional images can be reconstructed using only a single pixel detector (photodiode). My collaboration in these projects stills continues today as I am a member of the center. Moreover, the single pixel imaging project has been recently funded and now includes a multidisciplinary and international team.

From September 2017 to August 2018, I have worked as an Invited Assistant Professor at the faculty of science and technology of the University of Coimbra. I lectured 5 different courses: Physics, Applied Physics, Physics II, Modern Physics and Optics and Waves to 7 different degrees. Among these degrees I can highlight the integrated masters in biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, physics engineering and mechanical engineering. Moreover, I was also an invited assistant at the Coimbra Institute of Engineering (ISEC) where I lectured electronics for the bachelor degree in informatics engineering.

As a summary, during my research carrier, I have published, as author or co-author, 8 papers international journals (4 in journals Q1 SJR) and 8 proceeding papers in indexed international conferences with a total of 60 citations (SCOPUS). Moreover, I have participated as invited speaker in 2 international conferences. Furthermore, I am a co-author of a national provisional patent submitted in 2012 that was never transferred to definitive. Finally, since 2013 I have supervised 7 master students, all of them working on the biomedical engineering field. As a proof of scientific recognition and expertise, I am a scientific reviewer for 10 international journals, including PLOS One, Journal of Biomedical Optics (SPIE), Scientific Reports (Nature) Optics and Lasers in Engineering (ELSEVIER) and Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics (IEEE), and member of the program committee of 3 international conferences, MECBME 2018, BIOINFORMATICS 2018 and BIOSIGNALS 2019.
