Description

We make people's lives better with the power of AI.

Problem Statement

In recent years, young people have faced increasing stress from school, family, and social media, leading to growing mental health concerns. According to WHO, depression and anxiety are particularly common among late teens to early twenties, and suicide is the third leading cause of death among those aged 15–29. Traditional phone helplines, however, create a psychological barrier, as many youths feel uncomfortable with synchronous voice communication and hesitate to call. In contrast, generative AI chat offers anonymity and a friend-like experience, making it easier for young people to share their true feelings. This project proposes an AI chatbot specialized in counseling, supported by a monitoring AI that analyzes conversations and detects risk signals. When necessary, the system escalates cases immediately to human experts in partner NPOs. By combining Generative AI with human-in-the-loop support, the project creates a new type of social safety net where young people can seek help comfortably while ensuring professional intervention when needed.

Use Case

1. A Place to Vent Everyday WorriesUniversity student A feels stressed about classes, job hunting, and relationships on social media. They think calling a hotline is “too much,” but find it easy to write to an AI chatbot in the app.The AI responds empathetically, offering advice to help organize their thoughts and suggesting stress-relief methods (e.g., deep breathing, Pomodoro study technique).→ This allows them to avoid carrying small worries alone.

2. Detecting Serious Mental SOS SignalsHigh school student B types into the app, “I just want to disappear.”The AI monitors the conversation, immediately flags it as high-risk, and notifies a professional counselor.Through the app, B can connect anonymously with an NPO counselor and speak openly in a safe space.→ Collaboration between AI and humans ensures that often overlooked danger signs are properly addressed.

3. Continuous Mental Health SupportUsers can record their daily mood with stamps or short comments.Based on past consultation history, the AI gently suggests: “It seems you’ve been feeling a bit down lately. Would you like to talk to a professional?”When improvement is observed, it provides encouragement: “You’ve been making more positive comments than before.”→ This helps young people objectively reflect on their mental state and gain a sense of progress.
