Description

Project Vision & Purpose

UT Southwestern proposes to pilot a mobile electronic medical record (EMR) system to support the remote treatment and monitoring of children in the Ethiopian child welfare system. This application will: - Provide clinical decision support from UT Southwestern physicians and trainees. - Enable longitudinal follow-up of children with medical conditions. - Streamline referrals to higher-level care when necessary. - Fill a critical gap: currently, no electronic medical record system is in place in the region.

Problem Statement

Children in the Ethiopian welfare system often lack consistent medical documentation and follow-up. Local medical personnel—nurses, physicians, and community health workers—must rely on fragmented, paper-based records. This leads to delays in care, missed follow-ups, and challenges in collaborating with remote specialists.
