The Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth (IPDJ) has the mission of implementing an integrated and decentralized policy for sport and youth, in close collaboration with public and private entities, in particular sports organizations, youth associations, students and local authorities.

IPDJ is involved in the definition, implementation and evaluation of public sports policy, promoting the generalization of sport, as well as support for regular and high-performance sports through the provision of technical, human and financial resources. The preservation of ethics in sport is still one of the institute’s essential targets.

Likewise, the IPDJ aims to stimulate support for associations, volunteerism and the promotion of citizenship, leisure, non-formal education, information and geographical mobility of young people in Portugal and abroad. It is also proposed to revitalize youth tourism, in particular with regard to the youth hostels network and the Youth Card, in order to increase mobility, with efficiency gains and savings.
