Our Inspiration:

We entered this hackathon expecting to make a web application or an AI program that solves an issue. We looked at AI and blockchain solutions and noticed how powerful AI is at replicating work, especially, artistic works.   

We decided to start small and develop a web app where users can protect their musical intellectual property through the usage of blockchain technology. We hope to take one small step towards in protecting musical rights as a proof of concept for other intellectual (PROP)erties. 

What It Does:

We present to you PROP, an application that uses cutting-edge blockchain technology to safely store and compare data. PROP checks against similar fingerprints in the block chain and alerts the user if similarity is detected with a percentage score from 0% to 100%. This way, in an age of AI where work is often copied to be similar to original works, original works will be protected and stored in a tamper proof block chain solution. 

How We Built It:

We approached this project with a React Native front end, a Javascript backend, and a Firebase authentication system for user login.

The PROP website allows you to:
- Upload & compare audio
- Obtain each unique identifier
- Be alerted if a similarity is detected

Challenges That We Ran Into:

Throughout this hackathon, we ran into several challenges throughout. Our main challenges were:
- Refining our backend algorithm
- Dependencies being outdated/updated to the point where forums are useless


Accomplishments

Despite the hardships, there are many things that we are proud of. We are proud of being able to develop a project that is much outside of our comfort zone. With minimal hackathon experience, we did not have the previous skills and knowledge to build a blockchain algorithm.

What we learned

We learned a variety of both soft and hard skills, including:
- Blockchain technology
- Figma prototyping
- Collaboration and teamwork in assigning individual tasks



What’s Next?

PROP Solutions will expand by:
- Further refinement of our algorithm complexity
- Implementation of machine-learning and AI
- A collaborative sharing platform for musicians to share their works
- PROP is an application that cutting-edge blockchain technology and hashing to identify music and essentially putting a markdown on each unique snippet.
