Inspiration
Our project, Cryptorogue, is the product of our love and passion for video games and programming. Taking inspiration from games like The Binding of Isaac and Hades, we aimed to use and implement our favourite video game mechanics in order to share our experiences with others and create new and exciting opportunities for them.
Through our development of a rouge-like game with the additivity of a gacha game, Cryptorogue aims to push the boundaries of what a game can be and is the culmination of our hard work and dedication. We wanted to craft an experience that embodies the joy and excitement we feel as both gamers and developers.
How We Built It
Cryptorogue was build on Python’s pygame library. It utilizes AI systems like ChatGPT to provide the video game assets.
Challenges We Ran Into
Throughout the hackathon, we were constantly in a battle against time. As a 2 member team, we are naturally at a disadvantage due to the lack of resources, which made it really difficult to follow through with all of the ideas we had planned. Fortunately, we were able to utilize the various resources available online and on campus, which enabled us to stay motivated and push through until the very end.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
After this incredible opportunity at HawkHacks, we are most proud of our resilience and desire for challenge. Although a pygame application may not be the most technically complex game, our tenacity more than compensated for it.
What We Learned
The main takeaway we learned from this hackathon is that taking the first step of any project is often the hardest part of the entire process. Breaking through that initial barrier is crucial; only then can you truly unlock your potential and achieve anything you set your mind to.
