friendlii - made for your productivity and your friends. 

it's hard maintaining friendships as a young adult/university student. study with your friends and keep everybody's productivity on track with friendlii.

friendlii's main features .

• buddiies - choose a character (buddii) you like   
• join and make rooms - for you and friends to join.
  
• timer - set a timer together to study/be productive for. the timer will set for everybody in the room. 
• ban websites - if any one of you stops the timer or visits a banned website, the productivity timer stops for everybody!
• whiteboard - a collaborative whiteboard for you and your buddiies, which updates in real-time and can be moved around your screen. draw, erase, and use the laser pointer. 
• and many more to come!

how we built it .

art + animation: ProCreate
frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript (Chrome Extension)
backend: Node.js, Express.js, Websockets, Heroku Hosting, Firebase, Neurelo

challenges we ran into .

We actually originally came up with the idea “couplii” for long-distance couples to use when watching shows online or playing games together. However, halfway through the weekend, we wanted to incorporate a focus on the productivity aspect of this chrome extension, as well as gear it towards friend groups and study groups as well.

accomplishments we're proud of .

we're proud of how many features we were able to design and implement this weekend. making a websocket server run efficiently with optimized latency on all clients' screens.

what we learned .

we hosted a public express websocket server for the first and found ways to compress/optimize our code. we also tried learning how to use adobe after effects for the animations, but decided to stick to hand drawing due to the time crunch and big learning curve.

what's next for friendlii ?

• hover over a buddii to see what website they're on. 
• a coin + gacha system - from using the productivity timer, rewards user with coins which can be redeeemed to buy more characters, emotes, etc.
