  1. The problem your project solves

    • In modern days, with the rise of so many battery-powered electronic devices, there is a cost-effective need for us to keep charging those. While charging devices seems like a pretty straightforward task, it does matter when you are doing that task, and with a little bit of proactiveness, you can save the environment by being carbon aware. Our project gives you the optimal time slot for you to charge your devices when the electricity produced has the least carbon footprint.
  2. The solution you bring to the table
    • When the power has the least carbon footprint, based on how much power your device will use over the following 24 hours, it will tell you optimal time to charge it. Our application will provide you with an estimated time frame when it is ideal to charge your device.
  3. Describe how it uses the API/SDK 
    • We have used following API for our solution forecast 
      • /emissions/bylocations/best : This api we have used to get the best emission data for a particular region in a given time range.
      • /emissions/bylocations : We have used this api to display the past emissions in a chart format.
      • /emissions/forecasts/current :This api we have used in our algorithm to get the carbon intensity in particular region.
  4. The solution’s impact to the industry
    • With the launch of electric devices, mainly vehicles, which need to be charged at frequent times, we have to be aware of our carbon footprint. Thus, charging stations for vehicles can promote times when electricity has the least carbon footprint. 
    • As the application lets us know the best time when carbon footprint is lowest, we can extend it to various smart home devices; for instance, an air conditioner can cool the area when it finds the best time.
    • By getting to know the optimal time for all the devices ranging form home to commercial, we reduce carbon footprint by all possible means.
  5. The Feasibility
    • Green Power can be moved into production with the current solution.
    • The addition of the functionality to choose longitude and latitude automatically will significantly enhance this application. The device is currently being generalized. We can examine each electrical device in detail and calculate the carbon footprint depending on its energy and intensity.
    • Everyone can use the application effortlessly because of how user-friendly it is. Since this application works based on the user's preferred time and region, it would make their lives easier.
  6. The vision of your solution
    • Our vision is to reduce the carbon footprint by using this application on a daily basis to get the optimal (less carbon intensive) time to charge the devices so that people will lead a healthier lifestyle.
