Quality healthcare services are largely concentrated in urban areas, making accessibility a growing concern for rural populations.

Compounding the issue, Kenya faces a severe shortage of healthcare professionals. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a country should have 23 health professionals per 10,000 people. In 2020, Kenya had only 63,580 registered nurses for its 55.6 million citizens, a number well below WHO recommendations. Furthermore, the country had just 12,792 registered physicians, which falls significantly short of meeting the healthcare needs of the population.
