Description

Blockchain-Based Digital Identity and Aid Distribution System for Refugee Empowerment

I. Executive Summary:

The "RefugeeID & AidChain" project aims to address the socio-economic challenges faced by refugees in the Dadaab Camps in Garissa District, North Eastern Province, Kenya. By leveraging blockchain technology, the project seeks to establish a secure, transparent, and efficient digital identity and aid distribution system that can improve the lives of refugees living in the camps.

II. Background:

The Dadaab Camps host a significant number of refugees who face various challenges, including inadequate food supply, insecurity, sanitation problems, water scarcity, overcrowding, diseases, lack of income, shelter issues, and restricted movement for business activities. These challenges hinder their socio-economic well-being and integration into the local economy.

III. Objectives:

1. To provide refugees with a secure and tamper-proof digital identity on a blockchain.

2. To establish a transparent aid distribution system that ensures efficient and accountable delivery of humanitarian assistance.

3. To enhance financial inclusion by offering blockchain-based financial services to refugees.

IV. Methodology:

1. Digital Identity: Develop a blockchain-based system that securely stores refugees' personal identification information, biometric data, and relevant details.

2. Transparent Aid Distribution: Utilize blockchain to track the distribution of humanitarian aid, ensuring transparency and accountability.

3. Financial Inclusion: Implement a blockchain-based financial system, including digital wallets, to provide refugees with secure access to financial services.

V. Expected Outcomes:

1. Enhanced digital identity for refugees, promoting their recognition and access to services.

2. Improved transparency and accountability in aid distribution.

3. Increased financial inclusion and access to financial services.

VI. Stakeholder Collaboration:

The project will collaborate with relevant government agencies, NGOs, humanitarian organizations, and blockchain technology providers to ensure successful implementation.

VII. Budget and Timeline:

A detailed budget and project timeline will be developed during the planning phase.

VIII. Conclusion:

The "RefugeeID & AidChain" project aims to empower refugees in the Dadaab Camps by leveraging blockchain technology to address their socio-economic challenges. Through secure digital identities and transparent aid distribution, the project seeks to improve the overall well-being and prospects of refugees in the region.
