Description

The Problem

Our goal

Tracking bulk agricultural commodities in highly complex supply chains is  a huge challenge. There is a growing demand from the market for information concerning environmental and economic sustainability, commodities quality, labour and social welfare, fraud and origin authentication. Several initiatives have been developed to address these issues, however, there are no tools capable of performing the traceability of fungible products, that is, those products that lose their individual identity when mixed.

Our goal is to bring a service platform that can meet this demand and contribute to increasing the effectiveness of supply chain management as traceability platforms for agricultural commodities is not a trend but a requirement for agricultural trading companies.

The business problem

Population is expected to boom to 10 billion by 2056, making companies to find ways to reduce their ecological footprint. Each year, more governments are commited to reduce the carbon footprint purchasing carbon free or certified compliance products and commodities.

On the draw side, huge hidden costs are the result of Unsustainable sourcing and bio-diversity loss caused by unsustainable production methods, even exposing the price. Poor Coordination across the supply chain is source of hidden costs that reduces profitability.

Sustainability, in an environmental, social and financial sense, is now a management imperative. If nothing is done, by 2030 hunamnity might dive in a hunger crisis.

To avoid this, product origin certification,  production best practices and methods, ethical labor practices adoption, long term risk management and carbon footprint reduction are musts. Investors, consumers, organizations and governments are driving the shift toward sustainability.

How do we expect to attain our objective

Working Smarter across the supply chain allows to identify the process inefficiencies:

  • Offering traceability throughout the supply chain enables unprecedent visibility of the supply chain achieving new levels of transparency
  • Increasing demand to improve food security, environment protection and social welfare
  • Demand for ESG policies and development of niche markets. Traceability is key for these initiatives but almost all platforms available are not able to trace fungible products such as grains, oilseeds or sugar.
  • ESG policies are becoming mandatory in the EU. It will be required to  establish best practices for environment, ethical work and sustainability (carbon footprint).
  • Trading companies are committing to embrace ESG practices related to food security, environment protection and social welfare. Many had already stated they will implement these policies
  • Major agricultural trading companies have the data required but this is scattered The absence  of data integration makes it hard to transform this scattered data in useful information.
  • A platform is required to provide data integration along the supply chain for monitoring and control of flows of the goods, providing transparency and management support information.
  • A Traceability platform will be a basic requirement to implement ESG policies by trading companies and others of agribusiness ecosystem.
