MedCard NFT - Project Description
Overview
MedCard NFT is a decentralized healthcare platform built on blockchain technology that gives patients complete ownership and control over their medical records through NFT tokens. The project solves critical problems in modern healthcare: lack of patient data control, centralized storage vulnerabilities, and restricted access to medical history.
The Problem
Traditional healthcare systems store patient data in centralized databases controlled by hospitals and clinics. Patients cannot easily share their medical records between doctors, move their data across healthcare systems, or control who has access to their sensitive information. This leads to:
- Lost or inaccessible medical history
- Repeated medical tests and procedures
- Security breaches exposing millions of patient records
- No patient control over personal health data
- Incompatibility between different healthcare systems
Our Solution
MedCard NFT creates a patient-owned medical records system where:
Patients own their data - Each NFT represents full ownership of a medical card. The patient controls all access permissions.
Privacy by design - Medical data is encrypted and stored off-chain on IPFS (InterPlanetary File System). Only encrypted references are stored on the blockchain.
Granular access control - Patients can grant or revoke doctor access instantly through smart contracts. All permissions are enforced on-chain with full transparency.
Global portability - Medical records are accessible from anywhere in the world with just a crypto wallet. No paperwork, no bureaucracy.
How It Works
- Patient mints an NFT - Creates a medical card token for 0.01 ETH, uploading encrypted medical data to IPFS
- Grant doctor access - Patient authorizes specific doctors by their wallet addresses through the smart contract
- Doctor views records - Authorized doctors can access encrypted medical data after blockchain permission verification
- Update records - Both patients and authorized doctors can add new medical information
- Revoke access - Patient can instantly remove doctor permissions at any time
Key Features
- ERC-721 NFT Standard - Each medical card is a unique, transferable token
- Access Control System - Smart contract manages who can view private medical data
- Encrypted Storage - Medical records stored on IPFS with client-side encryption
- Audit Trail - All access grants, revokes, and updates recorded on blockchain
- MetaMask Integration - Simple wallet connection for patients and doctors
- Payment System - Built-in minting fee (0.01 ETH) for platform sustainability
Technology Stack
- Smart Contract: Solidity ^0.8.30 with OpenZeppelin libraries
- Blockchain: Ethereum-compatible networks (Xsolla ZK Sepolia, Polygon, Arbitrum)
- Storage: IPFS/Pinata for decentralized file storage
- Frontend: Vanilla JavaScript with Ethers.js for Web3 interaction
- Development: Foundry framework for contract deployment and testing
Business Model
- Minting Fee: 0.01 ETH per medical card NFT
- Doctor Subscriptions: Monthly access fees for healthcare providers
- Clinic Integrations: B2B API integration services
- Premium Features: Advanced analytics and multi-sig recovery options
Security & Privacy
- All medical data encrypted before IPFS upload
- Smart contract access controls prevent unauthorized viewing
- Patient-controlled encryption keys (never stored on-chain)
- GDPR compliant - patients have full control over their data
- Immutable audit trail for compliance and transparency
Target Users
Patients - Anyone who wants ownership and control of their medical records
Doctors - Healthcare providers needing instant access to patient history (with permission)
Hospitals & Clinics - Medical institutions looking to modernize record-keeping and improve interoperability
Medical Researchers - Access anonymized data marketplace (future feature) for health studies
Future Roadmap
- Mobile application for iOS and Android
- Multi-chain deployment for lower gas costs
- Integration with existing EHR systems (HL7 FHIR standard)
- AI-powered health insights and predictions
- Telemedicine platform integration
- Wearable device data synchronization
- DAO governance for platform decisions
Financial Projections
With conservative growth of 500 new users per month:
- Month 3: 1,500 total users, $17,000 monthly revenue
- Year 1: 11,250 total users, $552,000 total revenue
- Net profit margin: ~35% after infrastructure and development costs
