Underwater Research Prespa Lake

Prespa Lake is a dying lake in recent years or more than 2 decades . Water level is significantly drop during water use for agriculture beginning from hot summer months Jin July and August . Winter months when there is more rain or snow water level show slght increase of water level . 

In past Prespa Lake have natural overflow by underwater and surface cave system near Goric village in Albania . This is due to sediment rock and composure of Galicica Mountain and this location is on fast moving tectonic plate between Stenje and Gorica village . 

For my personal research , there was a series of earthquakes (more than 1200) in this region (2016) with more than 10 erhquakes with magnitude more than 5 by Rihter scale . After this event lake start slowly to lower the level especially in Sumer month when agriculture wells are active and take ground water , which is connected with lake water . Some statistic shows that there is 11000 wells who are registrated in local community and the same number who is not registrated . From my personal research on critical places underwater using my underwater ROV at the moment there is not active sinkholes in Prespa Lake . Some experts think that there simply still water loss by some sinkholes ,but my research show that only in summer month there is significant loss of water and no active sinkholes is present. 

The losses of water and use of pesticides for agriculture impact also the quality of water in lake . Cianobactery plumes was detected in recent years with show that this water become from 3 category directly to 5 , and is not suitable for any king of usage . Toxic are detected also in fish who leave in lake and should be forbidden to consume by people also. Some of villages around the lake sill use water for homes and drinking , and this can impact the health of population in future.

The goal for this project is to determine the losses of water for agriculture and impact of all environment around the lake.
