Description

The problem: Egypt is faced with a water scarcity problem, the biggest issue being the Nile, which provides about 97% of its freshwater resources, is being overly exploited by many countries, the most damaging one being Ethiopia's hydroelectric dam.

Our solution is a national plan based on desalinisation stations powered by plants using renewable sources of energy.

Using Copernicus, we extracted data such as: Surface solar radiation downward, Surface net solar radiation, 2m temperature, Cloud coverage, Runoff, Total percipitation, 100m u and v component of wind.

The challenge we are targeting is Securing equitable and efficient access to water, and we want the example of Egypt to be used as a blueprint if the problem arises in the EU.

The team is comprised of 3 members: Ovidiu, David and Vlad, future power engineers curently studying at UNSTPB in our third year. All 3 of us used programs such as: PVgis, QGIS, NASA Panoply, MATLab, Excel to accurately use the data pulled from copernicus's browser to provide a comprehensive solution to the problem at hand.
