Description

  • Idea

Thermal Sleuth is a project that will help in unmasking invisible pollution by using real-time satellite detection of illegal industrial thermal dumping in water.

  • Technologies used

Thermal Sleuth provides a bird's-eye view monitoring system using the following:

- Copernicus Sentinel-3 (SLSTR): thermal infrared sensors to detect unnatural heat anomalies in water bodies at night across vast regions.

-Galileo: every violation is logged with a Galileo-authenticated timestamp and precise coordinate, creating a "Digital Evidence Package" that is legally robust for regulatory enforcement.

  • EU Space for Water

This project aims to solve the second challenge: "Tracking and preventing water pollution." by trying to solve one of the most overlooked cases of pollution.

  • The Team

Andrei: Project Lead & Core Backend. Orchestrates system integration and drives core architecture.

Bogdan: Business Strategy & Backend. Built the hackathon business case and pitch, while ensuring backend scalability and algorithm efficiency.

Alex: Earth Observation (EO) Data. Specializes in Copernicus archives and Google Earth Engine to extract precise thermal anomalies.

Andra: Frontend UI/UX. Translates complex satellite data into an intuitive, high-impact user interface for regulators.

George: Frontend & Data. Develops seamless web experiences while assisting in the extraction of satellite data.

Vlad: Backend & Pipelines. Builds the robust API infrastructure for secure, real-time processing of environmental threats.
