💎 Idea
Aurinko is an AI-powered mobile web app that helps people prevent and manage Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) using real-time satellite data. In Nordic countries like Finland, where sunlight drastically drops in winter, SAD affects millions—leading to fatigue, depression, and decreased productivity. Aurinko monitors sunlight exposure, cloud cover, and UV levels to calculate a personalized SAD risk score and delivers empathetic, actionable wellness advice. From suggesting optimal times for outdoor activity to booking red light therapy or vitamin D3 orders, Aurinko turns winters from a season of sadness into one of wellbeing.
🛰️ EU space technologies
Aurinko uses Earth observation data from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS):
Solar irradiance to estimate actual sunlight exposure
Cloud cover to assess effective daylight
UV index for biological impact and mood-related risks
We also use Galileo GNSS (in roadmap) for location precision in scheduling sun exposure, activity routing, and nearby therapy centers. These space data streams are critical to Aurinko’s core feature: real-time, location-personalized SAD risk detection and prevention guidance.
🇪🇺 EU Space for Healthcare
Aurinko directly addresses the mental health impacts of light deficiency in Northern Europe. By offering tailored, proactive wellness interventions (sunlight guidance, red-light therapy booking, vitamin D3 recommendations), Aurinko integrates satellite tech into daily mental health care. It empowers individuals with self-care tools while reducing long-term mental health strain on public healthcare systems.
