📌 Problem: 
At least ⅓ of the food produced is wasted globally. In areas which are already food insecure, the loss of produced food happens mostly due to issues with storage. Imagine a village where food is already scarce, where crops that have been carefully grown and harvested by hand are stored for later consumption… only to be then discovered to be contaminated with mould or destroyed by rats.

👉 Solution: 
Introducing FoodSafe, a groundbreaking solution powered by satellite data. We've harnessed the capabilities of cutting-edge technology to calculate the likelihood of food storage problems on a global scale. This includes threats such as flooding, mould, rodent infestations, and more. What sets us apart is not just our data-driven approach but also the ease with which we connect with stakeholders.

Using satellite data, we calculate the probability of food storage issues (such as flooding, mould, rats, etc) globally and send out warnings to stakeholders. 

How it Works: 
Using data from satellites, we precisely determine the probability of various food storage issues, including:

• 🐀 Rodent Risk: Predicting the likelihood of rodent infestations following NDVI index peaks sourced from Copernicus data (Sentinel-2).
• 💧 Flood Risk: Predicting the risk of rivers or other waterbodies overflowing in the area.
• 🌦️ Humidity Hazards: Identifying the probability of air humidity reaching levels suitable for mould and harmful fungi to thrive, potentially producing mycotoxins. Baseline data comes from Copernicus (ERA5).

Our clients are actors in the food production chain, such as farmers and wholesale buyers, but also food aid organisations such as the World Food Programme.

We understand the diversity of connectivity around the world. FoodSafe ensures that vital warnings reach stakeholders effectively. In the future, warnings will also be easily reachable on common platforms such as WhatsApp. For areas with low internet connectivity, USSD and SMS can be used. Currently, the system is available online as a map service.

Our competitors focus on broader applications of satellite data, such as disaster detection, coastal erosion, deforestation, carbon emissions, and human settlements. Although they have their strengths, we specialize in food security, setting us apart.
