Improve the existing business standard methods for estimating the solar potential of specific locations which opens up a variety of different novel use cases. The existing tool (PVGIS) uses outdated data so leveraging new European data sources such as Sentinel 2 paves the way to new possibilities for estimating the solar potential of specific micro-locations (whereas the current applications only measure wider areas). 

In detail, our Unique Selling Points are:

- connecting banks with the best targeted customers

Data currently used involve the following: 

- PVGIS: current EU dashboard to estimate solar power potential on wide areas 

- Sentinel 2 (European Space Data Source): satellite constellation to estimate the cloud coverage of the required micro-location 

In further developments we expect to integrate: 

- Copernicus-dem digital elevation model (COP-DEM): another European Space Data Source to be integrated to exploit the Digital Surface Model (DSM) representing the surface of the Earth (including buildings) to have an even more precise estimate.

Challenge 1: enabling green and sustainable investments

The service enables more responsible and impactful investments in Earth’s renewable energy by targeting micro-locations and assessing the solar potential in a narrower area than current tools allow to do. 

This is relevant for insurance companies and banks as it allows them to: 

- finetune interest rates for insurance offers

- identify top 1% location for renting lands for solar power 

- detecting roof slope and size to reduce workload and improve safety for onsite engineering

- secure the best location for community solar projects
