💎 Idea

There are many threats for forests in the future, but insects are one of the biggest and the most overlooked one. As climate gets warmer these insects are getting more common or even spreading to new areas which can cause massive and unexpected damage to the forests.

We are facing this problem by using Copernicus data and deep learning models to predict the movement of these insects and finding out what areas are facing the biggest threat in upcoming years.

Using this information we can help the forest owners to take action in time and also provide crucial data to finance sector by giving insights of this threat.

🛰️ EU space technologies

We are using Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3 and Landsat-8/9 data. Sentinel 2 optical multispectral / IR is used for forest imaging with the help from Landsat-8/9. On top of that, Sentinel 2 is also used for forest bed moisture and deforestation tracking. Finally Sentinel-3 is used for measurement of land temperature and as well as forest fire detection. With all of this data we can formulate a model to predict the risks that forests are facing in the future.

🏦 Space for the Financial World

About 70% of the forest in Finland are own by private investors. Of course these need inurances and other services. Our product will offer reports for insurance companies to make better risk evaluation on these insurances. In the future we can also offer data to private owners that they can protect their forest from these insects.
