Description

💎 Idea: OCEAN ENERGY

Context:

The World is currently facing an Energy Crisis that needs to be solved urgently! We will use ocean energy to tackle this global issue.

Tidal Power has the potential to fulfill up to 10% of Europe's energy needs by 2050, according to the EU Commission. The global tidal energy opportunity is EUR 40B per year.

Our idea:

Phase 1 of Neptune Space & Energy will tackle this energy crisis using Tidal Stream Energy.

The identified problems or motivations are:

  1. Coastal Economic Opportunities
    1. Communities want to better harness natural resources
    2. Replacing constant fossil energy by intermittent renewable energy – Lack of diversity in energy mix
  2. Desire for ocean investments / stagnation in innovation / funding / LCOE?

  3. Tidal Energy Industry wants to sell more products / advance and proliferate their own technology / reduce costs

The identified solution consists of a turnkey financial product for enabling sustainable investments in ocean energies to promote:

  1. Coastal Economic Opportunities
    1. Investment opportunities
    2. Government Energy Resiliency
    3. Enable governments to increase their energy security, sovereignty and resiliency through energy diversification
  2. Democratization of Green Investment: Incentivizing institutions and populations to invest in renewable energy projects
  3. Connecting ocean energy industry with investment for technological growth and development
  • Connecting ocean energy industry with investment for technological growth and development

🛰️ EU space technologies: COPERNICUS

Remote sensing has applications abound: whether through algorithmically-enhanced prospecting for identifying the optimal locations for new, economically viable installations (potentially smaller than those which have been considered in the past), to helping governments assess and financially quantify the potential climate risk reduction associated with such an installation, to remotely monitoring existing installations for defects and informing maintenance requirements.

Remote sensing with EU space data has the potential to augment further this rapidly growing industry that will play a critical role in our ongoing struggle for energy security, our collective shift to carbon neutrality, and the protection of coastal communities from extreme weather events.

🏦 Space for the Financial World: UNLOCKING 98.5% OF A MARKET

Challenge #1 of the Hackathon: Enabling Green and Sustainable Investments, by providing a turnkey tidal energy investment solution to coastal communities and governments that integrates techno-economic opportunity assessment, an understanding of local energy infrastructure, partnerships with industry players who can build the solutions, and relationships with partners in the financial world (or the creation of our own sustainable investment vehicles) who can provide the necessary capital.

In effect, we have the potential to fight both the cause and effect of climate change, generating a rare win-win-win scenario in the process at a global scale!
