💎 About the project

We created our own index that evaluates the suitability of selected areas for agricultural purposes (such as growing crops or raising cattle) using Model Builder in ArcGIS Pro 3.0.2. We created a tool that computes this index based on several variables (landcover, soil type, slope, elevation, precipitation) that can be performed on different input data.


In order to save time, for demonstration purposes we used a commercial software and a small area located in Czechia (Vysočina) to demonstrate the solution. For the final product it is possible to use open source GIS instead.


Main goal of the solution is to provide a menu of suitable investment options which take into account potential natural risks.


More about the created index:

The index is based on evaluating different variables related to the geography of a selected area. Each of the selected variables is given a weight that contributes to the overall value of the index by summing up the computed values of the variables. The value of the index ranges between 0 and 1, where 1 indicates the optimal conditions for agricultural activities.

The analysis is based on Copernicus data (Corine land cover), INSPIRE (natural risk zones - flooded areas), SRTM and National soil database (BPEJ - quality and type of soil, precipitation per year).

The team consists of enthusiastic students of Geoinformatics, remote sensing and cartography. The quality of the team lies primarily in a comprehensive approach to problems, since the occurrence of a problem usually depends not only on one, but on several variables. Processing the problem on the basis of one variable may lead to an incorrent interpretation of the result and a thus lead to wrong conclusions and investment actions. 

Our mission is to offer multiple possible investment options that incorporate susutainability-related solutions that a person or company can choose from.
