  • Challenge #3: Beyond Horizons – Redefining Travel with Space Innovation

Description

💎 Idea

Problem: Existing weather applications typically offer forecasts only 1-2 weeks in advance for many locations. This is a significant issue for anyone planning an outdoor event, such as a parade, wedding, or group hike, several months ahead. The lack of reliable long-term forecasts forces organizers to make decisions based on high uncertainty.

Solution: We will create an application that utilizes an advanced weather prediction model based on the analysis of diverse satellite data. The application will feature a page for generating a detailed report for the user on the anticipated conditions at the selected location and time, with a multi-month lead time, with an AI Chat enabling the user to ask questions and discuss the displayed conditions, their potential impact on the event, and suggest alternatives.

Data usage:
From copernicus site about climate and atmosphere.

Technologies:
 - Python (Tensorflow) and R for LSTM model
 - API key for Gemini and weather data

How it links with the challenge 3#:
The Weather Assistant app connects space technology with AI to make travel smarter and more sustainable.

  • Uses Copernicus and Galileo data for precise, location-based forecasts.
  • Applies an LSTM model to predict weather up to a year ahead, improving safety and planning.
  • Features lie a chatbot that gives real-time, eco-aware travel advice and destination tips.
  • Supports sustainable tourism by helping users and agencies avoid climate-stressed areas and plan low-impact trips.

It links with the challenge by turning satellite data and AI forecasting into tools for personalized, safe, and environmentally conscious travel experiences.
