Description

Challenge #3: Beyond Horizons – Redefining Travel with Space Innovation.

In short: the app will use location data to collect the most relevant local stories and posts from social media and news sources — showing what people are really talking about — and then translate and visualize them on a map.

💡 Where did the idea come from? Every time I arrived at a new train station or airport, I wondered what local people were really talking about. I always felt that “official” tourist information creates a kind of sugar-coated world, far from reality. What interests me more are the real stories, emotions, and issues that shape each place.

The minimum goal: a working backend and a simple frontend — even with mocked data. My main goal is to build something I can keep developing and testing during my own travels.

🎯The solution to this problem may be a combination of satellite data processing techniques, NER, NLP and geocoding.

The result of this process would be a map visualization of local information from the past 24 hours.

It will likely not be possible to obtain precise geocoding for all entries, so those items will be grouped by source and displayed in the upper-right corner.

The remaining information, for which coordinates are available, will be shown directly on the map according to location.

Additionally, upcoming events — such as concerts or festivals — will include extra contextual data such as weather forecasts, air quality, and similar conditions.
