  • Challenge #3: Beyond Horizons – Redefining Travel with Space Innovation

Description

Idea

CoperniConcierge is a dynamic travel planner that takes care of all the tedious checking you would have to do during your vacation. It keeps track of the weather, crowds and other environmental factors through Copernicus satellite information to inform you if they would conflict with your plans. With personal preferences and trip specific topics it looks for replacements and suggests rescheduling to minimize the time you spend planning and maximize the time you spend enjoying your vacation.

How it solves Challenge #3

The concept fits the challenge by turning EU space assets into a travel experience that is personalized, adaptive, and environmentally smart. It uses Copernicus satellite data, weather intelligence, and environmental monitoring to anticipate real-world changes and adjust plans automatically. Travelers get a safer, smoother, and more sustainable trip — less wasted time, fewer unnecessary journeys, and smarter choices aligned with local conditions and nature.

Personalization comes from adapting to each traveler’s interests, health needs (like pollen sensitivity), and preferred activities, while dynamic routing and crowd insights encourage off-peak and off-the-beaten-path exploration. This reduces pressure on popular areas and spreads tourism benefits more evenly.

By combining space data, predictive intelligence, and user-centric design, the solution turns travel into a seamless, eco-conscious journey that’s guided by the planet rather than fighting against it — which is exactly the spirit of “Beyond Horizons.”

Used EU Space technologies

European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF):

Used for detailed weather forecasts including temperature, rain or snow, wind, and sunshine.

Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS):

Used to monitor pollen levels and air quality to support allergy-sensitive and health-vulnerable travelers.

Copernicus Marine Service

Used for ocean and coastal information such as wave height, water temperature, and currents for beaches and water-sports planning.

Copernicus Land Monitoring Service

Used for land environmental conditions, including snow depth and surface wetness, supporting winter-sports and nature-trip planning.

Other Data sources

BestTime API

Used for predicting foot-traffic and crowd levels at tourist attractions, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and museums.

SunsetHue API

Used to determine optimal sunset times and viewing conditions for scenic locations and photography moments.

Google Maps Platform

Used for navigation, city exploration, points of interest, and real-time traffic updates to adjust routes and daily plans.

Meet the Team

Our team brings together expertise in software engineering, environmental data, and human-centered design.

Phawita Wannopat is a human-factors engineer and psychologist with industry experience at CARIAD, ensuring that technology stays intuitive, supportive, and built around real human needs.

Johannes Hartmann is an environmental data specialist with professional experience applying ERA5 and Copernicus climate data in renewable-energy planning.

Arnd Bronner is a software engineer who has nearly completed the core curriculum at 42 Berlin, bringing strong problem-solving and system-building skills.

Together, we blend technical depth, environmental intelligence, and user-experience insight to build meaningful and resilient travel technology.
