💎 Idea
Who hasn’t heard the famous “Are we there yet?” echoing through the mountains — or been caught by a sudden storm just steps away from the summit?
Mountain adventures can be breathtaking, but they also demand good planning and awareness of changing conditions. Our app, HITCHBERRIES, was created to combine adventure with safety and fun. It’s an interactive hiking map with points, rewards, and digital stamps that lets users plan routes, explore hidden gems, and receive real-time weather alerts. With HITCHBERRIES, every trip becomes not only safer but also more exciting — for families, casual hikers, and mountain enthusiasts alike.
🛰️ EU space technologies
The application uses satellite data and GNSS signals, such as Galileo, to precisely determine the user’s position in mountainous terrain. We integrate this information with meteorological data from OpenWeatherMap, which relies on satellite observations and numerical models. This provides users with accurate local weather forecasts for specific map points such as peaks, shelters, or viewpoints. By combining space-based technologies with real-time weather data, HITCHBERRIES enhances safety, comfort, and awareness for every outdoor explorer.
🌍 EU Space for Consumer Experience
The project addresses the challenge of improving consumer experiences through the use of space technologies. By merging satellite data with gamification, we create a tool that educates, motivates, and protects users at the same time. Hiking becomes more accessible and engaging thanks to the interactive map, collectible points, and rewards. Users can make better decisions about their routes, weather conditions, and safety — leading to a richer and more enjoyable mountain experience.
