Astro-tourism is a direct response to a measurable global crisis: the exponential increase in artificial night sky brightness, or "skyglow." Recent citizen science research, which utilized over 50,000 observations worldwide from 2011 to 2022, confirms that the night sky is brightening by an alarming average rate of approximately 9.6% per year.

This rapid change means that the sky brightness doubles in less than eight years, progressively hiding fainter stars from view. For example, a child born today in a moderately light-polluted area where approx 250 stars are visible would only be able to see approx 100 stars by their 18th birthday.
