Highcares is an interactive mobile app that promotes sustainable mountain tourism 🌿🏞️. Many hikers want to explore the mountains but struggle to choose trails that fit their skills, values, and environmental impact goals.

🧭💡 Our solution combines personalised mountain recommendations that are based on user preferences and environmental data with fun challenges that enhance the mountain hiking experience 🙌

We address the challenge of enhancing outdoor experiences through EU space technologies 🛰️. By leveraging Copernicus data, we improve user safety, trail personalisation, and awareness. In our project, we present a demo algorithm in which we use the Digital Elevation Model and Sentinel images to analyse the difficulty of a given route.

✨ The model we propose begins with an individual assessment of the level of difficulty that is best suited to the user, based on their answers to a series of questions. We focus primarily on assessing endurance, overall health, and willingness to take on challenges. 

🎯 The algorithm then matches the route that best meets the user's expectations. In addition, the project envisages the future development of the application by adding, among other things, challenge elements related to a reward system for passing subsequent checkpoints along the route. Our system will consider factors such as current weather conditions on the trails, location preferences, and individual health limitations. Safety is one of our top priorities — that’s why we also focus on monitoring potential risks and dangerous situations that may occur in the user’s chosen area ⛰️💚

Our approach enhances consumer experience by making hiking not only enjoyable and informative, but also accessible 🍃🌳. It also empowers users to explore the mountains responsibly and safely.
